Buzz. Buzz.
Minnow gasped quietly to herself and sat up in her cushiony bed. She breathed for a second and clutched her chest. God, she was always so jumpy. Why her alarm scared her, she will never know. Soft morning sunlight shined through her windows, giving her bedroom a golden glow.
Minnow glanced at her phone and it read 7:00. She groaned and stuffed the pillow on her face, feeling more tired than she usually was. She rubbed her eyes and glanced around her cheery room. Her room was probably her favorite part of the house. Her mother, Mist, helped her paint the walls and buy furniture when she moved in about three years ago. It had a lot of little details she really enjoyed. The walls were a light stormy gray and she had her bed pushed up against one side of the room, right up against the window. She had all her cute stuffed animals she had as a kid lined up on top her desk, above her laptop. She honestly didn't care if they were childish, she found them absolutely adorable.
She had a small, white walk-in closet with all her favorite sweaters for the fall. Across one of the walls hung was a long string with small, little light bulbs, that had a bunch of pictures of her and her best friends clipped along with it. And right above her bed was the demisexual flag that Silvershire gave her for her birthday last year.
It was a small room, but Min still adored it with all her heart.
She yawned, and got out of her bed. She walked to her bathroom and brushed her dark brown hair quickly before making her way downstairs.
Right when you walk downstairs, you end up in the kitchen, which was Minnow's second favorite spot in the house. Her bedroom was amazing, but the kitchen came in a close second.
Mist was at the stove, making what Minnow absolutely loved. "Morning Min! First day as a sophomore! I can't believe it," Mist beamed and kissed Minnow's forehead as she sat down at the marble island. Her mother passed her a plate of fluffy pancakes with syrup, and she grinned. "Thanks, Mom." Mist loved to embarrass Min on her first day of any grade but Minnow didn't mind. Mist was just a really proud mother.
Mist poured some more batter onto a sizzling hot pan. "Are Ciel and Silver coming over for the first day of school pancakes?" "Don't think so. Ciel is going to pick both of us up in her new car but that's a bit later. And Silver is definitely not awake yet," said Minnow after swallowing a bite of her breakfast.
"More for us then! Need me to pick you up after school?" she asked and Min nodded. "That'd be great!"
Mist smiled and checked the time. "I would get ready if I were you, Min." She nodded and washed her dishes quickly before heading back upstairs.
While in her room, Minnow grabbed her favorite white sweater and a high waisted dark plaid skirt with laces in the front. She tucked her sweater in and put on her knee high boots.
As she was putting on her earrings, she phone vibrated on silent. She picked up the phone call and put it on speaker and Ciel gave her a happy greeting.
"Hey Mini! I'm on my way," Ciel's cheerful voice came from the phone and Minnow heard Silver in the background. "I'm here, too." "Okay, I'm sorry, we're on our way," Ciel laughed.
"Alright, be right out," Minnow responded quickly and hung up. She checked her phone again and the time was 7:45, and Ciel just pulled up in the driveway. Right on time like always!
Minnow rushed downstairs and kissed Mist goodbye before grabbing her book bag and rushing out the door. Well, it wasn't exactly a book bag, more like a messenger bag, but close enough.
She swung her bag around her shoulder and waved to her two best friends. Minnow opened the car door and sat down in the backseat while Silver was in the passenger seat. "Wow, someone looks cute for the first day," Ciel beamed and Minnow grinned. "Thanks!"
Ciel sat in the driver's seat with her platinum blonde hair tied into a messy bun. She was famous in their friend group for having the best style.
Silver was wearing an oversized hoodie, which Min needed to borrow from her sometime. She was wearing her long dark hair with purple tips down and she was owning that look. Silver groaned. "I do not want to go through three more years of this high school and these other kids-"
"And we have at least four years of college, too," Ciel piped up as she pulled into the school's parking lot. Minnow gulped quietly, already stressing about how stressful college is going to be. God dammit, she hated it when stress builds up.
Silver stared at Ciel and grew quiet for a few moments. "...Oh my god, you're right."
Minnow shook her head and smiled a bit. "C'mon guys, let's get our schedules for the semester," she said while getting out of the car and practically dragging her friends out, too.
After they received their schedules from their homeroom teacher, the trio decided to compare them before the first period of the morning began.
Silver grumbled a bit, looking at the paper in her hand. "I have literature, geometry, and physics for the first three block periods."
"I have biology, geography, and world history," said Ciel, glancing at her paper for the second time. "How about you Mini?"
Minnow blinked tiredly at her schedule. "I have algebra II, economics, and world history with Ciel." She was happy she was with Ciel but grimaced a little with algebra. "I really hate algebra II. It always makes me nervous-" she sighed and the bell ringing made her jump.
"Don't worry, I'm sure you'll make it out alive Min," Silver grinned and placed her arm around Minnow's shoulder. "Maybe it won't be as bad this year, you never know."
"Yeah, first time for everything, Mini!" Ciel gave her a quick hug before making her way to her first period class.
Minnow stood by herself for a second, before heading to the dreadful class.
Yeah, first time for everything.
