The next day, Zoey was taking the plate back over to her neighbor’s house. She bounded up on the steps and rang the doorbell and a moment later, a boy that appeared to be the same age as her with shaggy red hair, opened the door.

“Oh, is this the Moskowitz’s?” Zoey asked, now wondering if this was the right house. She was pretty sure this was the one that Mrs. Moskowitz was pointing to yesterday.

Hawk looked at the girl before him. For the first time since “flipping the script" he couldn’t find his voice and he got a weird sensation in his stomach. ”Is that butterflies?” He thought to himself? Then he noticed her arm, or rather, lack of arm. “You asshole. Don’t be starring at it.” He thought to himself. He knew all too well when people used to stare at his scar and he hated it. He suddenly averted his eyes to her beautiful blue eyes, which didn’t help with the butterflies in his stomach.

“Uh, yeah.” Hawk said, finding his voice.

“Oh good, I though in had the wrong house. How embarrassing would that be? I’m Zoey, by the way. My brother and I just moved in yesterday. We used to live Huntington Beach but after my parents- um, we moved here because of my brothers new job. I’m hoping the surf is as good here as it was back home. Hopefully in a month or two I’ll be able to go surfing once it warms up. Do you surf? Everyone always gives me this weird look like I’m joking or something when I tell them I like to surf. My brother surfs but it would be nice to fund some other people to surf with too, you know what I mean? Anyways, your mom made these amazing chocolate chip cookies for us and I'm just returning the plate. What’s your name?” Zoey said all at once.

“Man this girl liked to talk.” Hawk thought.

But before Hawk had a chance to answer he heard his mom’s voice.

“Eli, honey, who is it?” Mrs. Moskowitz said as she came into view. “Oh, hello Zoey, how are you sweetie? I’ve see that you met my son, Eli.” She said with a smile.

“Yeah, and I just wanted to bring your plate back. The cookies were delicious by the way. Thank you again.” Zoey said with a smile.

“Anytime sweetie. I love to bake so you can expect more in the future.” Mrs. Moskowitz said with a smile.

“Well, I better get going. We still have some unpacking to do before school tomorrow. Bye Mrs. Moskowitz. I’ll see you around Eli.” Zoey said with a smile.

“Yeah…see you around.” Hawk said, almost tripping over his words. “What is wrong with me?” Hawk thought to himself. He never got this nervous around girls ever since he became “Hawk.”
