Yu-Gi-Oh, an old competitive trading card game that wasn't as big when Zane was growing up. The appeal when he was younger was on the rise as trading card games became a fad when Zane was in elementary school but it died out as he got older and technology took over the world. It wasn't until recently Yu-Gi-Oh rose from the depths and took the world by storm. Augmented Reality Technology brought the game to life and it eventually overtook main stream sports like football and soccer, over time everyone got into Yu-Gi-Oh and it brought the world together.

Zane sat at his desk with his head placed on top of his arms, his headphones trailed from his ears as he snored away on the desk, next to him was his Duel Disk and his deck. His deck consisted on an amalgam of Legacy Monsters, monsters used by the main protagonists of the different Yu-Gi-Oh seasons along with some added cards along with a good amount of Spell and Trap Cards with cards created from the aptitude test at the game shop, the cards were called Chaos Monsters and consisted of various monster types. Zane wore a grey t-shirt with tech wear pants and combat boots, his jacket rested on his shoulders covering him like a blanket as he slept. "Zane." a voice said, Zane could barely make it out as he was waking up from his nap with his music blasting into his ears "Zane!" someone shook his arm and he finally opened his eyes, he looked up to see his friends Kiera and Spencer standing over his desk. Kiera wore a white t-shirt with a denim blue jacket, her jacket matched her jeans and she wore black boots, her black hair was pulled back into a ponytail, Spencer wore the school's black and red sweatshirt with a pair of khaki pants along with a pair of black and white sneakers. Zane took out his headphones and sat up, stretching his arms outwards "Have you been asleep the entire time?" Kiera asked and Zane shrugged "Pretty sure." "What is so hard about staying awake for class? You know this is why you're failing." Kiera crossed her arms "You can't really blame him Kiera, nowadays class is just boring. Everyone's so eager to get to Duel Period." Spencer pointed out "Well Zane hasn't even dueled anyone yet! So he has no excuse. Speaking of duels, come on. We came to get you so we can watch Lily's duel." Kiera said and Zane sighed as he stood up. He tossed his bookbag over his shoulder and slid his Duel Disk onto his arm, grabbing his Deck and slipping it into the card holder on his belt, and he followed his friends out of the classroom.

They entered the courtyard, where all the duels took place, monsters covered the fields and students stood across each other, dueling one another. Life had changed over the past couple of months "You finally gonna duel today Zane?" Spencer asked as he softly hit Zane's arm "Not today no." Zane replied, taking out his headphones and wrapping them around his phone, his white hair bounced as he walked and the purple streaks in his hair shined in the sunlight "Come on Zane! You haven't dueled since everything got popular again. You used to be crazy about Yu-Gi-Oh when we were kids." Kiera leaned back as she walked "Yeah but that's different. It's not that I won't duel I just don't want to." Zane lied, he didn't fully know if his deck would do any good against anyone "If you say so." Kiera said "There's Lily!" Spencer pointed forward and Zane turned his attention to the duel in front of him. His friend Lily stood with two cards in her hand, and a face down card on her side of the field. Her dyed blonde hair glittered in the sunlight, she wore black button up long sleeve with a matching plaid skirt, her athletic shoes didn't match her outfit but she probably didn't care. Her opponent was Jackson, who had Number 17 Leviathan Dragon in Attack Mode on his side of the field. Zane looked down at his Duel Disk to get the run down of the duel, Lily only had 1000 Life Points while Jackson had 3000 "It's over Lily! You should know by now girls like you shouldn't be playing a man's game! Leviathan Dragon ATTACK!" Jackson yelled and Leviathan Dragon roared and shot forward a beam from it's mouth "Funny thing then, that a girl's about to beat you at a man's game. I activate my face down. Shining Rose Mirror!" Lily thrusted her hand forward and her face down revealed itself "By banishing a Prim Rose monster from my Graveyard, I can not only negate the attack but send it back at you, destroying your monster and dealing you double the damage!" "But my dragon has 2000 Attack Points." Jackson said as he took a step back in disbelief "That's right which means, you take 4000 points of damage!" The beam hit the mirror and reflected back at the dragon, destroying it and engulfing Jackson. He howled as his Life Points hit zero, Jackson fell to the ground and Lily danced as the victor "Lily!" Kiera waved over to Lily. She turned in excitement and ran over to them "You guys made it just in time to watch me win!" Lily exclaimed "Is that the deck you got from the aptitude test?" Spencer asked and Lily nodded "The Prim Rose Deck. It's full of Fusion and XYZ Monsters." Lily smiled. An aptitude test can be taken at the local gaming shop, where a person takes a series of questions and they're given an archetype based off the results which is how Zane got a Chaos Deck with Legacy cards, cards can always be added.

The group walked along watching the other duels, Zane stared as duels ended and begun, he almost wanted to test his luck but he decided against it "So Zane, when are you gonna duel?" Lily asked "Don't bother, we tried." Spencer said "Come on! Didn't you get your deck from the aptitude test a couple weeks ago?" Lily turned to Zane, he rubbed the back of his neck, looking away "Well yeah. But I haven't really looked over it. Besides, it's nothing as flashy or good as everyone else's." Zane said "He's just being modest. Look, its Robbie!" Kiera said and shot her hand across Zane's chest, pointing to his left. Their classmate Robbie stood across from the school's top duelist Jason. Robbie looked as if he was out of breath, only with 2000 Life Points while Jason had 6000. On Robbie's field was Destiny HERO Doomlord along with a facedown, while on Jason's field was Borreload Savage Dragon with 4500 Attack Points "Why's Robbie dueling him?" Spencer asked "Isn't Jason the school's top duelist?" Zane asked "Yeah. Robbie would never outright duel him." Lily said and they turned their attention to the duel "I activate from my hand the Spell - Mask Change." Robbie's voice was shaky, he activated his spell and his monster glowed "I can use my Doomlord as material and fusion summon Masked Hero Koga." Robbie summoned his monster, it had 2500 Attack Points, not nearly enough to destroy Jason's dragon "Next I play the Spell: H - Hearted Heart! Which gives my monster a 500 Attack boost!" Robbie yelled and his monster's attack rose to 3000 "Next I activate Koga's special ability, which gives him another 500 Attack!" His monster's attack rose once more to 3500 "He's getting there." Zane thought "Next I'll activate Koga's second ability! By banishing my Elemental Hero Woodsman, your dragon loses Attack Points equal to Woodsman's Attack Points!" "Nice try freak! But that won't happen, I activate my Trap - Divine Wrath!" Jason revealed his facedown "When you activate a monster effect, I can discard one card and immediately negate it's activation. Oh, and it destroys your monster." Jason said and Robbie looked terrified "Is Robbie ok?" Spencer asked "Somethings up." Zane said. They watched as Robbie's monster shattered "Next I play my other Trap - Fool's Burden! If one of your monster's was destroyed while it had an increased Attack Points, you take damage equal to it's Attack Points." Jason smiled deviously and a bolt of electricity shot from the card and finished off Robbie, who screamed in pain and fell to the ground "Robbie!" Kiera yelled and Jason was declared the victor.

Jason walked over to Robbie and looked down, his eyes veered towards one of his face up cards which was Hi-Speedroid Kendama "I'll be taking that." He kneeled down and grabbed the card "Hey!" Zane yelled as he leaped over the railing and rushed towards Robbie "Oh? Come to help out this loser?" Jason asked, Zane kneeled down to Robbie "You ok Rob?" He asked and Robbie nodded "I'll be ok." He responded with a shaky voice, Zane turned to Jason and stood up "Give him back his card." Zane demanded "No can do. After all he put it on the line." "Not like I had a choice." Robbie muttered, Zane shot Jason a gruesome look "What's with the sour look?" Jason chuckled "If you want the card back you're gonna have to duel me for it." He said "Zane it's fine." "Kendama was one of the first cards you got and you treasured it so much you barely used it in a duel. It's not fine." Zane exclaimed and then turned to Jason, he exhaled and straightened himself up "Fine. I'll duel you for it." Zane said and there were scattered remarks that rung throughout the crowd "Zane's never dueled before." "Maybe he hasn't dueled because he's a prodigy." Some of the students said and Jason chuckled "Meet back here tomorrow. If you win, I'll give you the dork's card back. If I win, you'll have to give up one of your cards. The question is, which card?" Jason asked, he gave off a devious smile again and Zane reached down to his deck and pulled out the top card on top of his deck, it was Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon. Zane held it up and the students gasped "Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon?! A Legacy Card!" Jason chuckled "Zane you can't! Odd-Eyes-" "I take it that means we have a deal." Zane asked and Jason nodded "Yes, yes we do." he began to walk away. Everyone else rushed over to Zane and Robbie, who had began to gather his scattered cards, Spencer kneeled down to help him "Are you insane?" Lily asked and Zane sighed "Jason not only is an egotistical hot head, but he is the best duelist in the school Zane!" Lily went on, Zane ignored her and looked down at Robbie "Why he make you put up a card Robbie?" "ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME???" "I had accidentally bumped into him in the hallway and caused his lunch to fall on the floor, he told me that to make it up to me I'd have to duel him with one of my favorite cards on the line, and if I didn't duel him he would just take the card." Robbie muttered, Zane put his Odd-Eyes back in his deck and sighed "Are you sure you're up for it Zane?" Spencer asked "I hope so. Or I'm in over my head."
