Ten years ago tragedy struck, over four days murder has happened, bodies were found carelessly strewn in the streets of St. Louis Missouri. It was gory and everybody feared stepping out of their house.
Ten years ago, the murder was the talk of the town, people spoke about it left and right. To this day, ten years later has come a popular event that takes place on the anniversary of that date. It lasts for four days, how long it did before, people come from all over to "solve" the cold case.
My name is Lucas Turner, I am a residence of St. Louis, but I've been out of that town, and that state since I was 17. Under the training of the military, marines to be exact. I've been deployed since, I am now 27 years old, unfortunately back to staying in that town. Working at this newly built place that houses information about crimes, how law enforcement solves them, other 'neat' things.
People will come few weeks before the event and try to learn, and today is the day a few weeks before the 'event' as everyone calls it. I don't particularly like that, the fact that they put this here, yes it makes money, yes it pays the bills. But it's dangerous.
Why I say that is because it went cold after the murders, no one found the suspect; I suspect that he or she went off into hiding, moved away, or the far-fetched one 'changed' their ways. Far fetched I know, some murderers don't have the will to change. But it's been a cold case for ten years.
But from what I know, this event has been going on for roughly two years now, I have only been back a month, and was learning about the event and how people come to this town and try to solve it. Some never backtrack anything or look at the locations, they mostly stay in this building.
So I do hope that no one gets brave, cause what if the killer is still alive and just waiting. He or she has a sick mind because the victims were roughly between the ages of 16 and 18. They were found on the street, their body looking like it was just dumped there, and the gruesome part is, that their intestines and any other guts from the inside of their body.
It was pulled through their mouths and just hanging there, when you get bored you read the books. And I decided to read what had happened, and another thing was they were still alive at the painful seconds when it was happening to them.
When I read about it, I nearly vomited and that's saying a lot from a marine, I am on active duty but after some events that happened, they are allowing me to have a vacation as they put it.
I was sitting on a stool behind this counter, it pays well for military service people, 9.50 an hour whereas if it was citizen it'll be seven dollars an hour, I was scrolling through my phone minding my own business. When the door chime went off, I looked up to see this guy and two teens come walking in.
I stand up and set my phone "welcome," I say as they gave a slight nod, but the older-looking guy gave a slight smirk. I let it go over my head as I sit back down, while they gathered stuff to check out and read and stuff. It's like a library.
The two teens come to the counter "excuse me, sir?" I looked up over my phone "yes?" I asked, "our friend wanted to ask you something about a murder" I nodded as I knew what it was about, I slowly get up and find him at a desk. "What had happened ten years ago?" He asked, I stared "it's in the notes?" I say dumbfounded.
"I know but do you know" he questioned and I went on to tell him what I knew of it and my opinions on the matter. "So..." I started "Aaron," he said, "Lucas, anyways so Aaron, I wouldn't advise going out to the locations, but if you do I'll accompany y'all," I say as I reluctantly volunteered myself.
I did not like this one bit, I was very hesitant about this. But they wanted to try a different approach to this cold case. "We will meet up at the fountain four miles from the first location," I said "in one hour," I added as they gathered more information, I told them to lock up this place.
"What did I get myself into" I mumbled to myself as I rush to my parent's house, I didn't have enough money for my apartment, so this is where I'm staying for the time being. I went up to my room and glanced at the folded flag on my shelf, I frowned deeply at it.
"I'm sorry Kevin," I say to it as I had told him all about this event and how I got rumors about people doing this. I was 20 when I and him started dating and both in the marines, by 23 he was killed in action, and then my mom got sick four months ago, and I requested a 'vacation' from the military and they granted it a month ago.
I go overseas risking my life and then come home to help some strangers solve a cold case of a tragic murder? Which could get me killed, and I am scared to death. A marine built tough, scared. I pulled out the army backpack I put in a flashlight, batteries, ammo enough to pack an army, and holstered my gun to my hip and a hunting knife to the other side of my hip.
