Note: The events of Seabound did occur in this next gen reality but Nya has been restored from her "one with the sea" state (which, I hope, will also be the case in the series too–).

Jay threw open the front door of his house, prancing outside onto the porch with a huge smile. "What a beautiful mor– oof!"

An open newspaper flew in and smacked him straight on the face, fluttering wildy in the wind. Sputtering, Jay tried to remove it but the gales kept pushing it against his face. He finally succeeded in tearing it away, revealing his windswept auburn hair. He held it back and narrowed his eyes at the headline.

"Violent Storm Hits The Coast Of Ninjago. Local Residents Advised To Stay Indoors."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Jay muttered exasperatedly, rolling his eyes and balling up the newspaper. "These days, a violent storm is always hitting some part of Ninjago or the other." He threw the paper ball across his garden but the winds compelled it to strike back on his nose.

"Ow, son of a–"

Jay stomped back inside and slammed the door shut which looked like it would break off its hinges. The wind howled outside and before long, thunder roared through the din. Jay glanced worriedly out the window, shaking his head at the windy disaster. He turned around and almost jumped when three pairs of wide eyes met him.

"When's Uncle Kai coming?" his kids chorused.

Their father smiled. Jay had never expected Kai of all people to be good with children but the effect he had on the twins and Lydia turned down that string of thought. Whenever Kai would announce his arrival, the kids would pester him and Nya till the said uncle would show up at their doorstep.

Be it arm wrestling with Cliff and Fritz (and letting them win) or trying out Snapchat filters with Lydia, Kai always had a way of making the kids have a swell time in his presence. In short, Uncle Kai was their favorite. Funnily enough, Kai's children connected more with Nya and so their little family was like a confidential group much closer together than the families of the other Ninja.

"I'm sure he's on his way," Jay declared, trying to ignore the thundering rain. The twins bumped fists and whooped while Lydia yelled "Yay!" with more enthusiasm than the storm itself.

Satisfying his jumpy lot, Jay happily made his way to the living room where he was sure Nya was dusting the furniture. However, he found her on the couch watching the news on the TV with a frown. Jay winced at the screen as it showed the reporter, Gayle Gossip almost being blown away by the wind. She screamed into her mic about the weather being disastrous for the whole of next week.

"It's been storming on and off all month," Jay spoke, sitting down next to his wife. "Lloyd mentioned hailstones about the size of golf balls raining all over the monastery yesterday. I'm a little worried."

He raised an eyebrow when Nya didn't reply. Turning his head, he discovered her lost in thought, eyes glued to the screen. He shook her shoulder. "Honey, you okay?"

"Hm?" Nya broke away from her trance. "Uh, yeah. I'm fine." She bit her lip as if she regretted being found caught zoning out. She cleared her throat before saying, "Kai called. He said he won't be able to make it due to the rain."

Jay pulled his lips in a thin line, hunching his shoulders as if cringing. "Someone's gotta burst the kids' bubble."

Nya groaned and looked pleadingly at Jay. "Can you do it? It's hard having to deal with Cliff's puppy eyes."
