Title: Night of the Haunted Train

A/n: So a little bit of background info on this story, I wrote it around Halloween back in 2020 for a contest but never got any kind of information back for the contest, so now here's the story that has basically been sitting in a notebook in my closet for almost a year now. Enjoy!

~Gothic signing off~

"Are you sure about this?" she asked. It's  about Mid-October in the year 2019, and it's about 98* outside where me and my best friend Abby are in her backyard on her family's swing set. Let me introduce myself, my name is Lillyana, and I'm 12. Me and Abby are having a sleepover, we found an old train whistle when we were playing with her dog Lilybear. The train whistle, which was covered in dirt, now sparkles and shines in my hands.

"How bad could it be?" I ask, putting the train whistle to my lips blowing into it. The whistle makes a soft low note. The ground shudders. "What was that?!" Abby asked.

"I'm not sure," I say agitated with her.

"Well you're the one that blew the whistle, not me." she says. She continues talking but at this point I just ignore her. "Hello? Are you even listening to me?" she asks.

"Huh?", I ask "I got lost in my thoughts sorry"

"Ugh, you always get lost in your thoughts", she groans "I asked if I could try."

"Oh sure," I say. "Be careful though". I hand her the whistle.

She blows the whistle and the ground shudders again. "Hey, wanna go back inside?" she asks.

"Sure" I say.

We start to go back inside as the train pulls up. "Hey look," I say, pointing to the train. "The train isn't on any tracks."

"It's just your imagination", Abby says. "Let's just go inside."

"Ok you go inside" I say, "I'm getting on the train." I start to walk towards the train.

"Wait," she says, "I'm coming with you." She walks with me as we climb on the train.

"Weird" I say. The train is empty, without even an engineer or conductor. "There's nobody here"

"Maybe we should leave," Abby says.

"Yeah, you're right," I say.

As we turn to leave, the doors slam shut in front us. "Um, how are we supposed to get out of here now?" I ask as the train starts rolling forward slowly.

"I don't know," she says, "but we have to get out of here." She points over to a guy with his head down. "Why not ask him?"

"Ok," I say, walking over to the guy. "Excuse me sir," I say as his head falls off. This guy is a skeleton!

We scream and look at each other as our memory registers.

We remember that we are ghosts we died in 2018 in a car accident that we were both in. The train is here to take us back to Ghostville where we are roommates in our school dorms so we can still continue our education. We miss our parents and they miss us, but we check in with them on Saturdays. We can only visit on Saturdays because we both have busy schedules.
