Chapter One

"Hey Lily!" My mom smiles as i walk out of school. "Where did you get the hat?" She asks.

"Fuck off!" I growl.

Hi! Im Lily Hale! Except... i dont feel like a Lily! I dont want to be a girl! I am 8 years old! My older brother Derek is so cool! I look up to him! We fight constantly but i am so happy to even get the slightest bit of his attention! I usually wait for him to get home from school but today was my first day in real school! I was homeschooled since i was 5. It was really hard and i was bullied.

"Hey Lily!" Laura smiles and opens her arms for me.

"No!" I push past her.

"Wait! Dereks going to be home soon! Arent you going to wait?" She shouts as i stomp up the stairs.

"No! Fuck off!" I shout.

"Well she's my niece anyway!" I hear uncle Peter laughing. I slam my door and lean up against it. I start crying. I pull off the hat and walk over to the mirror. I look in it to see my hair. Its all uneven and there is glue, tape, blue tack and lollipops all stuck into it. I wipe my eyes but more tears fill them.

"Lily?" Coras voice asks from the other side of the door. Cora is 3 years older than me! I growl.

"Piss off!" I lock my bedroom door. Afew minutes later i hear a knock. I pull my hat back on and wipe my tears.

"What?" I huff as i open the door.

"You werent waiting for me today! What happened?" Derek asks. He takes in my mental state. I can see him doing it.

"The kids were mean to me!" I sigh.

"What did they do to you?" He asks. I pull off the hat and he gasps.

"Dont worry Lil! I can fix it!" He holds out his hand to me and i take it. He smiles and leads me into his room. He lifts me up onto a chair and hands me a magazine of girl hairstyles.

"I dont want these!" I say.

"Just pick out what you want your hair to look like!" He says.

"I want my hair to look like yours! Or uncle Peters!" I say. He looks at me.

"Is there... uh... something you want to tell me?" He smiles.

"I want to be a boy! Like you!" I admit.

"Okay, little brother! Whats your name?" He smiles. Wow... i think for a moment as he gets his shavers out.

"Max!" I smile.

"Okay Max! Am i the first one you told?" He asks.

"Yeah!" I smile. I feel happy now. I watch as my hair falls to the ground.

"Well i am honoured!" He grins. He then hands me a mirror to look at my hair. I smile.

"I love it! Thank you!" I smile and hug him.

"Come on! We will show mom!" He says. I nod and he takes my hand.

"Mom! Look!" Derek smiles.

"Derek! What did you do to your sisters hair?" She shouts.

"Mom! He is my little brother!" Derek says. I let go of his hand.

"No! You just cut off your sisters gorgeous hair!" She shouts and puts her hands on the side of my face. I hit her hand away and run back up to my room slamming the door behind me. I feel broken! She called me his sister even when he told her i was his brother!
