the sun rises far in the east, flooding the large plains of the desert and bathing me in its light. it's lonely here; my blanket just about covering my feet as i think about the last time i saw my gang. they told me to hold on... they'd all be with me soon. did they mean living or dead ? it's been a couple weeks, i'm starting to fear the worst.
i can't lose hope yet, though. there's still so much left for me to do. i drag my backpack closer to me, scraping the rough rock with its stiff dirty beige canvas. standing up, i pack up my things. there's not much there, just a blanket and sleeping bag. i tie my worn boots around my threadbare socks, standing at the edge of the cliff i slept on to behold miles of sharp rock, lifeless sand and abandoned diners; beginning a new day in this bulletproof wasteland.
good morning, california.
---------
i examine my radio, still dead. i've been walking for so long along this road.
i check my map to make sure i'm on track to the pawn shop i'm meant to meet Neon Ghost at, why the hell did he pick such a far off place? i'm sure any old bar would have been fine. then again, it was his deal, it wasn't every day you could buy a functional car for cheap out here.
my eyes trace over faded paper to where i am currently. "hollow's valley"
wow. this place is infamous for being exactly where dracs hit in big numbers because of how rocky the area is. more places to hide and camp out.it's a huge risk just being here, let alone walking along the biggest road in broad daylight. but it's the most direct route to where i'm going and i can't take another day on foot in this wasteland. i scan around me, no one near yet. it's incredibly lucky that i've gone almost the whole day without seeing a single drac. then again, i shouldn't be so glad. if i get caught here, there wouldn't be anyone within 2 miles to hear me scream.
i quicken my pace, godamn it i shouldn't be here. every distant noise makes me paranoid beyond compare. so just imagine my surprise when a laser beam shoots right by my right ear, missing my skull by a few inches.
i jump around, whipping out my gun to take on any kind of enemy. the familiar sight of drac masks peek out their heads from behind rocks, jumping to action. three of them begin swinging at me at once, beginning to surround me. shit, i can't take on three. i dodge bullets and punches until i'm out of breath. sprinting over dry desert and hopping over more make their way towards me, flinging neon lasers at my head.
shit, shit , shit
i panic and run. sprinting across the desert, jumping over rocks and tripping over roots, boots scuffing and hair flying i'm fast, but not fast enough. the last thing i feel is a swift hit to the temple, followed by the shouts of a panicked frenzy of people.
laying on the hot sand, my vision starts to blur.
