My Looks

I have always hated what I look like. I was not a pretty girl. I was overweight, and just plain old ugly. My hair went down to the middle of my back, but it was always stringy and gross. I had dull gray eyes, and a stupid double chin. I hated it. I couldn't help it of course, but I always felt self-concious of my looks. I wondered why I was made this way. I knew about God, and I couldn't stop being upset with him for making me so ugly. Thankfully, once I turned 18, I got my special powers.

Yeah, where I live, everyone has a special power. Magic is kinda normal. My Dad can start a fire with his fingers, my Mom can dance fight, my sister can raise plants with magic, and my brother can fix everything he touches. I got my power, and was totally trilled with it. I could change my looks at will. I could make myself look however I wanted. No more mean comments about my weight. I was going to be the most beautiful girl in the world.

I ran to the bathroom and started to change my appearence. I made my self super thin, with hips that popped out. I made my hair long and silky, and took away all the fat on my body. I made my eyes blue, and made myself a little taller. In other words, I made myself a fantasy character in looks. I gave myself a figure to die for.

My parents were astonished at the change. They used to always leave me home because they were ashamed of my looks. But now they took me everywhere. They were proud to have such a beautiful daughter. I packed all my old clothes away because they were much to big for me now. The first day of school was amazing. People were astonished. I had so many people ask me out. But I only excepted to one. Jarren.

He was tall, dark, and very handsome. His smile lit up the world, and his eyes always twinkled  with mischeif. He was probably the most popular person in the school. I'd had a huge crush on him for years. And now he finally noticed me. We agreed to meet up at a cafe at 8 o'clock, Friday evening. I was totally pumped. My sister was jealous. But I noticed that my brother was looking. sad. I didn't think much about it though. Nothing was going to ruin my mood.

Jarren and I had a wonderful date. It was the best evening of my life, but as I walked up to my room, I wondered why my brother had looked so upset. I lay on my bed wondering about his expression for a while, before I fell asleep.

It was two years later, when disaster struck. I got up one morning, and decided to make my hair curled at the bottom. It worked for all of three seconds. Confused I tried again. It didn't work. I stared in shock as I slowly started getting bigger. My hair got shorter, and frizzier. I stripped off my clothes which were becoming much too tight. I stared at my mirror in horror as I realized I was changing back into my original self. A little shriek escaped me.

"No No NOO!!!! This is not happening!!!!" I cried. I took out some of my old clothes and put them on. There was no way this was realy. This had to be a dream. I locked my door, and stayed in my room all day. I didn't eat anything, and I didn't answer any of the messages Jarren was sending me. I just cried all day.

"Why God? WHY??" I cried for hours. "I hate you. I HATE you for doing this to me!!"

"Unnika?" I heard Mark ask. He was outside my door.

"Go away." I yelled. But I didn't hear any footsteps. I heard metal hitting metal, some tinkling, and then a click as my door swung open. My older brother stepped in. He took one look at me, and smiled. He slowly shut the door. He walked over to me and sat down on my bed.

"What's the matter?" he asked, grinning.

"You know what's wrong!! Look at me!!" I cried.

He took a few moments to study me. "You're normal again."
