Y/N POV:
I reaper in the middle of a lake. The water bringing a sense of comfort. I stand floating on the water. it is calm and soothing. I always come here after a mission. While this one is not finished I needed to refocus after nearly killing two members of their team. No doubt they will sooner or later have to leave. Leaving their secrets open to anyone who dares.
However, I must first clear my head. Water seems to have a connection to my powers. While I don't remember what happened I think it is ironic as water hold memory.
I focus on the water beneath me. It slowly raises to my hands. I gently wave them up and down closing my eyes and feeling at peace. My hands wave aimlessly around me. I am calm and at peace.
I remember the first time I went here. Followed by those HYDRA agents. It was just another test at the time. To see if the experiments had worked...
My head shakes in agony, my hands rush to my head to try and stop the pain but do nothing. I start to sink into the water, something that was once my friend now killing me. But I couldn't worry about drowning, at that point it was the least of my worries as it felt like my brain was about to explode...
*5 years Earlier*
as I wake from my slumber I small creak comes from the cell door. the meal scrapping against the ground. Everything hurts from yesterday's experiments the hard wood floors I sleep in aren't any better. More pain enters my stomach as the soldier that has come to collect me boot contacts it will high force. I whimper and curl myself into an even tighter ball as several more kicks are administered to my back, legs and a few to the head. After what seems like hours of kicking even though in truth it was probably only a few minutes the soldier laughs. His face turning sour as I lift my head. "Встай у тебя червячка" he says.
(A/N: Встай у тебя червячка. Means get up you worm)
I collect myself quickly in order to avoid any more punishment. A shaky breath is exhaled as I stand there still looking at the floor. I know now that if I dare look into the soldiers eye I would be back on the floor in seconds. Several kicks being administered after. "Пришло время посмотреть, полезны ли вы." he snarls at me.
(A/N: Пришло время посмотреть, полезны ли вы. Means=It's time to see if you are useful.)
After countless years of what can only be described as torture, I can only hope.
he leads me out into the hall way as I pass others cells all I can smell is old blood. I have learnt that once I leave my room it is 1 minute and 46 seconds of cells with old blood inside of them. Meaning that for 1 minute and 46 seconds everyday I hold my breath. I only dare breath after the heavy metal doors close behind us. Three other guards meet us on the other side. I am surrounded. They start speaking in a language I am secretly learning to speak, English. I know the rough meaning of what they are saying. I try to follow the conversation without causing suspicion. I look at the ground and listen.
"Have you told her?" one asks.
"What?!? No, of course not. You are forgetting the mission objective." the second replies
"Yeah, what happens after" the third says, mild hints of sorrow for me are mixed into his voice.
The conversation continues but I don't catch any of it. As I am court up in what the third man said, 'what happens after'.
The soldier behind me pushes their gun into my back, "Двигаться! (Translation: Move)" they say.
The three soldiers laugh as they catch a glimpse of my terrified face. With the gun still pressed in my back we make our way through the building. The smell of coffee comes through one door, the next screams of pain. Screams and coffee, the smell and sound that will be forever ingrained in my brain.
We finally make it to today's room number 26. I have never been in this room. The door slides open revealing a small above ground pool in the middle of the room. The room makes my head spin and heavy scents of chemicals make their way into my nose. I cough and splutter at the smell. The guard that had pressed their gun into my back scoffs at me, "Идиот... (Translation: Idiot)"
The soldier laughs at me as I try to rid the smell from taking over my brain, slamming the door behind me. I look and the one-way mirror. It is of the poorest state. Cracks litter it and mold grows all around the sides.
"Stand on the water," a voice says in Russian over a speaker.
"What!?!" I reply, also in Russian.
"Comply Soldier," the speaker man simply says.
I concerned and confused look takes over my face. I take a deep breath and slowly make my way over to the pool. I climb up the ladder. I stand on the top rung slowly straightening up, my balance slowly decreases as I shake in fear. My left foot hovers above to water I rethink everything that has happened up to this point. The tests, the punishments all lead up to this point, it must mean something.
So, I try, I feel the anticipation rising in the room behind the one-sided mirror. I place my foot on the water ever so slightly putting weight on it. It doesn't sink. I start to tremble as I shift my foot from the top rung to the water. I don't sink. Applause can ever so faintly be heard from the other side of the glass. I feel myself be overcome with a feeling I have not felt in far too long, I feel appreciated. I slowly walk all around the pool. "Lift it up!" someone screams over the speaker. "I tilt my head in confusion at the unknown language. "Поднимите воду руками. (Translation: Lift up the water with your hands)" I correct my posture once more I feel the energy coursing through my veins. I close my eyes. And fall straight into the water. I don't expect it I snort the water. I feel a hand grasp at my hair pulling to the surface a gasp for oxygen, and while I am recovering the hand the only thing keeping my a float a second slaps me across the face. I get sworn at and dunked in and out of the water. Told I'm useless, and that I should do better. I am dragged from the pool. Flung onto the ground and beaten. It is not long until I am unconscious.
(******************)
The next thing I know I am on the hard wood floor of my cell. Bruises make up most of the skin on my body. I look up to see a soldier walk into my room. he says to me something, in Russian, that filled me with both hope and dread, "Today we go to the lake,"
