🔮 The term "Magic" can mean different things to different people. This word can be used to describe a range of things from stage or performance magic to miracles and acts of God within various religions.

The magic I'm talking about while using this term and defining the difference between it and the term "Magick", is stage magic.

Stage magic is sometimes referred to as an illusion or magic tricks that to the public, are seemingly impossible feats using natural means.

🔮 On the other hand, the term "Magick" was created to define the difference between stage magic and the magic of witchcraft and Wicca.

A myth was that the word magick was invented by Aleister Crowley (1875-1947) for the same reason as I mentioned above. But in truth magick has been around for centuries and was first mentioned in old texts dating back to the 5th century.

However, there is some truth to the Aleister Crowley theory. It would appear he was the first person to consciously choose this word but it was not to distinguish it from stage magic.

He was an English writer and occultist and he described magick to include anything that moves a person closer to fulfilling their destiny, which he would call "One's True Will.".

He used the K because it's the 11th number in the alphabet and 11 was significant to him. Also, adding a letter to the end of magic made it a 6 letter word that represented a hexagon which also features heavily in his writings and indicates that it was important to him.

🔮 Other than the 'K' how are these two terms different?

• Magic is more liberal in what it accepts to be magic! Anything which uses willpower to manifest change can be classified as magic.

Magic is more about what the individual wishes and would like to manifest, whether that is money, fame, love, etc.

• Magick, on the other hand, refers only to things that use willpower to better the person and move them towards their "True Will.".

Spells like a money spell, memory spell, hexes or curses, and just day-to-day things, don't immediately classify as magick since it really depends on the intent and reason for the spell.
