🔮 Divination is the practice of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by using your physic abilities. There are many different divination methods in witchcraft, but, today I will be talking about bone throwing!

🔮 Throwing bones are essentially just a set of tools used to divine the future. These sets usually consist of bones, shells, trinkets, etc. Each witch crafts and collects their bones based on their throwing style and a set can change significantly over time.
Creating your own set of throwing bones should be a fun and intuitive process. It may be something you do all in one day, but probably, this process will take you a little longer. You may start with 3 pieces, or 5, but as you go about your regular life, you'll start noticing things that just beg to be added to your set.

🔮 Pros:

1. Throwing bone sets are entirely personal. There's no right or wrong way for your bone set to be!

2. Bone throwing is an excellent way to harness psychic power if you don't really know how to tap into it. This method of divination can help you access those deeper psychic messages and improve your intuition massively.

3. This form of divination can help you connect with the earth, with past generations of witches, and with your primal nature. This is a tool made from what you have available, natural items, hand-me-down trinkets, and such. It's shaped by your reality and your circumstances and that is something that is often lost in a digital age. So, if you sometimes find yourself struggling to connect with the physical, human part of your spiritual self, bone-throwing can feel like a revelation.

🔮 Cons:

1. Bone throwing can be a fairly volatile form of divination. If you're not in the right headspace, or having a particularly "blocked up" day psychically, you may get no answer at all! Though thankfully, it's usually easy to tell when this happens. A reading will feel flat and uninspired at times like this and you'll know to put the bones away for another time.

2. If you're not someone who has a psychic side, this kind of divination might never work for you. However, I think that everyone has psychic capabilities, but only some people know how to access them. If you don't have any kind of psychic capabilities right now and would like to learn, I belive that it IS possible to learn that skill, and bone throwing might be a great tool to help you work through those barriers.

3. Bone throwing sets can be quite delicate, so this can make them a little more difficult to travel with and a lot harder to read in public spaces. If you do a lot of divination in public spaces or you travel a lot, it might be hard to keep a set of throwing bones intact.

🔮 How do you clean the bones that you've collected?

Cleaning animal bones is a multi-step process that might take quite some time. There are three steps these bones have to go through.

• Soft-tissue removal.
• Bone degreasing.
• Bone whitening and bleaching.

🌱 If Mother Nature has not already done that for you, the easiest way to remove soft tissue from bones is to cover them in room-temperature water and let them soak for a few days. Using a crockpot or boiling them will very likely damage the bones so I don't recommend it. This method, Maceration, will be the smelliest part of the process so it would be a better idea to let the bones sit in the water outdoors.

🌱 To degrease the bones, warm soapy water is by far the easiest and cheapest method. Dawn dish soap works really well, and make sure to not use powdered dishwashing detergent meant for machines. Also don't try to use chemical degreasers, like stove degreaser. To clean them you can use an old toothbrush and brush them gently, they don't need much pressure applied!

🌱 To whiten/bleach your bones you need to place them in hydrogen peroxide. Use 5-10% hydrogen peroxide and remember to use gloves, protective goggles and be extra cautious. Leave your bones in the hydrogen peroxide until it has reached your desired whiteness.

🔮 How do you read your bone throwing set?

I just recently started my bone set collection and right now it only consists of three bones, which I randomly found when I went for a walk in a forest near my house. That random but beautiful find was what inspired me to do some research and write this chapter!

I personally like asking my bones about "Yes or No" questions but you can also use them to interpretate messages from the universe or your guardian angels.

• When asking a "Yes or No" question, if the bones are touching I take it as a Yes and if they're not touching I take it as a No.
• If the bones are slightly touching I take it as a soft Yes/Undecided, so I usually ask again.

Once again, you can put your own meaning behind the way the pieces of your collection are touching or what way they're facing.

Remember that it's your craft and yours only!!
