An awkward silence filled the space between Kojirou and Kaoru. So stifling in it's thickness that Kaoru had to clear his throat from it.

"So..." Kojirou said, elongating the vowel, as if that didn't add to the anxiety both of them were feeling. "How... Do we do this?"

Ah, there it was. The million dollar question.

How do we do this? Why are we doing this? When did we agree to doing this?

Kaoru didn't have to be there, wasting his time sitting on the hardwood floor of Kojirou's bedroom, when he had much more important things to do back home.

Like learning a new trick on his skateboard, or doing his homework, or helping his mother with the house chores.

But no, he was wasting his time sitting on his ass across from Kojirou in the other teens bedroom. All because of the stupid idiot's request and Kaoru's stupid idiot of a heart jumping at any chance to experience such a thing.

Really, Kaoru blamed it all on Kojirou. It was all his fault (though, it really wasn't) for being so stupidly handsome and kind, making Kaoru fall in love with him.

So when Kojirou came to him during lunch at school asking him a very intimate question, Kaoru didn't really know how to respond.

"Are you really such a virgin that you don't know how to perform a simple kiss?" Kaoru replied, after a moment of stunned silence, and blessed Kojirou with his monotone silk voice.

Obviously this had the exact reaction Kaoru was looking for.
Kojirou's face flushed from his neck to the tip of his ears. From embarrassment or anger, Kaoru couldn't tell.

"Of course I know! I bet it's you who doesn't know anyway, why else would you be teasing me if you weren't just projecting your own insecurities onto me." Kojirou retaliated, crossing his arms over his chest and letting out an indignant huff.
"Just tell me a yes or no, otherwise i'll find another person to ask to help me being my date on Saturday."
Kaoru gave nothing away with his facial features to indicate that what Kojirou just claimed had any effect on him.

In the end, Kaoru really was a weak teen for his best friend-turned-crush, so of course he gave in.

"Stop delaying the inevitable, you doopy gorilla. Are we doing this or not?"

"Fine, fine! Just... stop pressuring me okay?"

Kaoru rolled his eyes.

With a deep breath in and out, Kojirou shuffled forward towards Karou causing their knees to press against each other. Kaoru's palms began to dampen with every second that passed, his breath coming in short despite nothing happening yet. It was as though everything hit him at that moment, the moment their knees touched, that this was very real. Very real indeed.

This was not one of Kaoru's day-dreams or fantasies he liked to play through during boring classes at school. This was not the many dreams that woke him up earlier than necessary on a week day. This was absolutely not one of the many ramblings he wrote in his diary he hid away under lock and key.

This was no imaginary game, for Kaoru knew exactly where he was, what he was doing and what he was about to do. He could feel Kojirou's breath against his chin. He could hear the light exhales of breath, the two of them sharing the same air as they waited impatiently for what was to come, both too nervous to make the first move. When Kaoru shuffled slightly in his place he could feel the rub of fabric against his knees - the only place the two of them had dared touch each other just yet.

A licking of lips and a dry swallow, Kaoru had built up his confidence to finally move and do something. And so, with his eyes closed, he moved forward, aiming for a light peck on the lips to start the two of them off.
