The girl backed Callie up to a tree. "Who are you?" She asked sharply. Callie didn't know what to say exactly.
"I'm...um..."
"Oh, shut up." The girl interrupted. Callie did not like this girl, whatever her name was. She did have a good sense of style, though. Her silver, shimmery jumpsuit was slim-fitting and had a black symbol-an A with a curvy side and a straight side and an arrow for the intersecting line- embroidered on the breastpocket. The pants led down to black, high-heeled boots with no buckles or straps. She had curly dark hair and piercing eyes. She had her arrows slung over her shoulder, and her bow was silver and curly. The arrow was remarkably pointy. In fact, this girl scared Callie quite a bit. The girl grabbed Callie by the arm and yanked her through the dark forest to the shimmery tent. Silver brasiers encircled the tent, filled with burning embers. The girl yanked Callie into the tent, which reminded Callie of a Moroccan villa gone...silver. Scarves, shawls, and tulle and taffeta were draped and hung from the top of the tent, and Callie had to lift them to see where she was going. Several girls that looked like the one Callie'd encountered were sitting cross-legged in the first room of the tent, and were staring at Callie like she was an alien. The mean girl led Callie through the tent to a back area, where a beautiful young woman, around fifteen, sat cross legged on a silver pillow. Her arrows and bow were leaned against a corner of the tent. She was in a shimmering silver dress, slim at the top and flowing at the skirt. The same strange symbol was embroidered at her heart. Her striking eyes stared Callie down. "Lady Artemis, I found this eavesdropper on the beach." The girl sneered. It couldn't be! Artemis only existed in Greek mythology, which Callie had cancelled out on her list of beliefs. Artemis (or whoever she was) pointed to the other section of the tent.
"Thank you, Miss Nightshade," Artemis said. The Nightshade girl glared at Callie and left. Artemis or whatever sized Callie up. She seemed to be mentally taking notes. "Five feet, strong build, good eyes.... the traits of a huntress." Callie knit her eyebrows. She had no idea what this girl was talking about.
"Excuse me?" Callie asked. Artemis didn't answer her question, but asked one of her own.
"Are you good with a bow?" Artemis asked. Callie was doubly confused. Extremely confused. Baffled, even. " I said, are you good with a bow?" Callie shrugged. Artemis stood and studied her carefully. "Hmmmmmm... have you ever dated anyone?" Callie was annoyed now.
"Um, that's none of your business." Callie answered. She was going to be as short as possible with this girl. Artemis drew an arrow to her cheek and aimed it at Callie's throat. She gulped. "I've never dated anyone, I swear." She stammered quickly. Artemis held her bow at ease, which set Callie at ease. Artemis picked a silvery jumpsuit like all the others off the ground, embroidered with the same symbol.
"That's it. How would you like to be a huntress?" Callie couldn't believe it. A nature-preservation freak, asked to be a Huntress of Artemis. She shook her head violently. Artemis laughed. Her voice was creamy and soft. "Calla Lilly Maria Johanssen, I wouldn't worry if I were you." Now Callie was truly freaked out. No one except herself, her parents and grandparents knew her full name, much less a crazy teenage wolf hunter she'd found in the trees. This was getting creepy. Callie backed away, and Artemis walked toward her. "The wolf's cry CALLED you, Callie," Artemis reassured. "You belong here. Don't worry; we cover as a biweekly archery camp. Most days, you'll spend a week with us, then a week at home. If we travel a long distance, you'll be "invited on exchange". Don't worry, we hardly ever cross the Mare Nostrum or pillage monster hideouts. You'll be perfectly safe." Callie nodded slowly. She wasn't sure what was going on, but she felt like there was no going back. She grabbed the suit and went to change.
