As Maeve slowly walked down the streets to her house, she reminiscence all the time she ran across the same streets in a hurry to catch the bus. But today, she wasn't in hurry. For the first time, she had no plans, no rush, no meetings to attend, no deadlines to meet. She breathed in the calmness unemployment brought.
She struggled to juggle the box on one hand and the ringing phone on the other.
"Yes mom?" answered Maeve.
"What is that I am hearing? You have been laid off?" asked her mother.
"Its true, mom. The company has been running on low funds for a long time. It may file for bankruptcy soon. Good thing is that I wasn't the one only one that was laid off." Maeve tried to soften the blow of unemployment to her worried mother. Although, she worried about paying the rents but now she had time for her other interests.
"What is the name of your shitty company that fired you?" Maeve could feel her mother's anger through the phone.
"Not fired, mom. Laid off. Different case." Another desperate attempt to soften the blow.
"Answer me first."
"Cisco Co." replied Maeve, "Alright, mom. I have to go now. I will call you later. Bye."
