Chapter two Friend or foe?

Currently, I was sitting in my office. Sipping at a cup of tea that I was holding just waiting. Of course, I would be.

I was waiting for someone very important... One of the current candidates to be king. That would mean that if I became their ally and they won my church would be supported.

But if I disagreed with them the amount of backlash we were getting would raise indefinitely. Of course, I had to be prepared for that as well.

And finally, I heard a knock on my door. So I took one more sip before setting my cup down.

Y/n: "You may come in." I said making my voice just loud enough for them to hear.

And so the door opened. And walking inside was a young girl with white hair, A white dress, and purple-blue eyes. She indeed seemed a bit like the legend of the witch that I had heard of.

If someone hadn't warned me before I might have thought she was the very person I wanted to destroy. But of course, I showed her none of this hostility in my smile.

Y/n: "It is very nice to make your acquaintance young miss. Please take a seat."

Emilia: "Thank you, sir." She said nodding.

Oh. It seems like she was being careful as well. That made this meeting all the more interesting.

Y/n: "There is no need to be so formal. You are the one of higher position here." I said shaking my head.

Emilia: "I will still respond in kind." She replied.

Oh my. She seemed dead set on acting respectfully as well. That was good. It meant that neither I nor her would start a fight.

Y/n: "Then would you like a cup of tea? I had a fresh pot brewed just moments ago." I offered as I stood up.

Emilia: "Yes please." She said with a nod. 

I walked towards my pot grabbing one of the few teacups. I set it down grabbing the pot and slowly let the steaming liquid pour out.

I set the pot back down before I began walking towards her again setting the cup down in front of her. I then circled back around to my seat and sat down.

Y/n: "So miss... I'm glad that you were interested in my work."

Emilia: "Of course. Religion in this country is very carefully monitored. There are those that worship the dragon kingdom and those who worship the witch."

But as she spoke about the witch she seemed to watch me even closer. Ah... So she was worried that we were a facade for them? That would cause issues.

Y/n: "Well. I can promise you this. The word of God has deemed the witches cult as our greatest foe."

Emilia: "I see. But how do you hear the word of this God? Your people have not seen or heard him."

Ah ha. One of the common things that most had pointed out about religions all across the world.

Y/n: "God created us, humans, in his image. So anything outside of that is our enemy." I said.

Emilia: "Even elves?" She asked.

Y/n: "Ah I forgot... This land has more than just humans. But I assure you that I speak of more than just them. I consider, Elves, Beast people, and even the spirits as those who were created by him."

Emilia: "And you're saying that the witches cult is outside of this?"

Y/n: "Why of course. They are going against the fundamental rules of God. They are prosecuting the people of God without any reason." I said my voice raising a bit. But luckily I caught myself before I got too worked up.

Emilia: "Then how does your God think of the legends of the kingdom?"

Y/n: "Of course I know that there was most likely a dragon like the legends spoke. And I respect them for believing so wholeheartedly. But I will continue to worship who I believe in."

Emilia: "Then does that mean you are a friend or a foe to us?" She asked.

Finally. The decisive question. I knew that this question would be asked one way or another.

Y/n: "I do not wish to become your enemy. But if your people snuff out my beliefs I will not hesitate to protect those who side with the church." I said. This was both a warning of peace and a threat. It was just how she decided to handle this.

Emilia: "Then I hope that we can be allies in stopping the cult." She said holding out her hand.

I smiled and reached out shaking her and briefly. Before pulling it back and finishing the last sip of my tea.

Y/n: "If you would like to I can show you the teachings of my church miss." I offered raising an eyebrow.

Emilia: "It... seems that I would have time for that." She said finally smiling.

I finally closed one of the copies of the Bible. Sadly the written language was much different from my own. But with the help of the villagers, we translated it fully.

So it was not difficult to teach Emilia a bit about it. Or more accurately just read now and then answering a question.

Y/n: "It seems like you should be going soon, miss... I do hope to see you once more."

Emilia: "I would be glad to sit down and talk with you again as well." She agreed.

Y/n: "Then I'll lend you this copy of my book. It's a promise of sorts. Come back and visit after you finish it." I said sliding the book forward.

Emilia: "I... Thank you. I'll make sure to return it by the end of the month." She said nodding.

Y/n: "Good good. I hope you have a pleasant ride." I said offering one last smile.

She nodded taking the book bowing one last time before walking out of the room.

I just closed my eyes and leaned my head back taking a moment to relax. Things had gone very well today. That was quite good.

But then I heard the door open. None of those in the church would enter like that. And Emilia didn't strike me as the type either.

So I knew who it was. So I leaned forward a bit my smile staying wide.

Y/n: "It seems that my original ally has come for a late-night discussion have you not?" I asked.

Looking towards the black hooded figure in front of me. Of course, they couldn't reveal themselves even to my followers. It was not time for that quite yet.

???: "Indeed it has father... I was hoping to talk about how to spread your word through the people."

Y/n: "Then poor yourself a cup of tea. We have much to discuss." I said nodding.
