A Dangerous Secret Revealed

Chapter 1

*Back on Earth*
CATHERINE

"Mom," I stand by her side, shaking her left shoulder. "What do you mean by "They took him!" ??"
She didn't reply. Just kept sobbing. "The woman...took...Must...go....James..." She can't even form a sentence!
"Mom. Please, I need you to explain!" I said and help her up to her feet. She sat down on the sofa, sobbing still.

Her sobs slowly stopped. She took in a deep breath to calm herself. Her breathing was back to normal.
"Okay," I talked softly. "Now, Mom. Can you explain what happened?"

"A woman took James," She said quickly. What kind of explanation was that?!
"Uh...can you explain specifiaclly? When...where...how..."

Mom put her hand to her face and sighed. "It happened a few years ago. About...four years ago. I was making dinner. James was playing with his toy cars the last time I checked him. James was five by then. While setting up the table, I heard unearthly noises. The whole house and the whole neighborhood was quiet. All I could hear was that noise. At first I ignored it, thought it was just some unimportant stuff. But it didn't stop. Even got louder. Finally time came and I couldn't take the noise. It was just so disturbing. I went to inspect the backyard, the garage, and even that room where you found the diary." She explained then paused. I do remember that room. It feels as if those happened just a week ago.

"I checked one last room. James's room. It was coming from his room. Your former room, I mean. The next thing that happened was absolutely unbelievable. The first thing that caught my attention was that there was an intruder in the house. Second, James was shrinking in a oversized bottle. I started to panic. What was a mother like me supposed to do? The intruder was covered in all black. She was also wearing a mask, covering her whole face. Thin and short, I knew I could take her easily. First I rushed to grab the oversized bottle - to save James. But the intruder was fast. Before I could take the bottle, she took something from her pocket (I didn't even know she had one) and took something I thought I would never see another one aside from my own again in my life - a wand. Which means - the intruder was Takinyo! That time I knew it would mean James was in REAL danger. I didn't know what - why - this woman wants with him. I realized now that James shrank at least half his size! The intruder pointed the tip of the wand - it was black - to me. She made a circular motion with it. Good thing I prepared for danger. I had my own wand in my pocket, took it out immediately."

She paused again. Maybe to remember the little details that happened. Then she continued.

"The intruder did something with my wand. The moment I held my wand, it...it...was burning hot. The next thing happened, it was melted, then it vanished. I was completely powerless. Trusting my instinct, I once again made the attempt to save your brother. But...I failed..." Her voice broke into a short sob. Then continued."I failed...the intruder was able to escape with the oversized bottle...with James inside! But before she went, she did something to me.
She took my Takinyo powers. Which means even if I buy another wand, I would not have the ability to do anything with it. I screamed loudly for the woman to give James back, but she flew instantly out the window and left abruptly.
The things I did for the next few weeks, months, and years...was finding for a way to get James back. I did everything. I tried to call you. Call Grazilda and your school. Call your dad. But I had no contact. I even went abroad to look for...for...people who might know stuff like these. Over the years, I've tried to find ways to get my powers back. But I got no such luck. I was fired from my jobs multiple times for being late - I was up all night looking, spying, and searching about James." Her explanation left me with tons of questions erupting in my mind like a bunch of volcanoes.

I try to speak but my tounge and mouth won't cooperate.
"Oh" was all I could say.
But my mind was set to one thing: I have to get James back.

"Mom," I said. "Did you recognize the intruder?"
She shook her head. "She was unfamiliar. As I've said, she was wearing all black."
"But you're sure it was a female?"
"Yes. I'm sure."
Who could she be? Can't be Amira and Matilda. Grazilda killed them...

"Cath, it can't be those Amira and her sister, could it?" Mom asked.
"It can't be...They're dead!"
"How sure are you?"
"Very sure." The questions I was meaning to ask were now gone.

"Well, what now?" Mom asked.
"I have to go," I said and stand up quickly. I have to go, but I don't know exactly where.
"Go where?" Mom stood up too. "I'll go with you."
"No, Mom. I'll go find James. You should stay here," I told her. She looked confused.
"But, Cath, where will you find James? He could be anywhere!"
"I have an idea. Stay here. I'll be back in a few days."

It's time to visit my old friend.
