Party Crashers

When the storm had dwindled down to a light rain, the cars of Radiator Springs began to arrive at Flo's. While they'd agreed to keep it a small party (as Doc and Lightning had seen plenty of excitement over the last few months), the town was going to spend the night celebrating their return.

The second that it was dark enough, the neon lights flickered on, bathing the town in colorful light. Flo was giving out free drinks, so most of the town stayed at the cafe. Once the rain stopped, a few cars began to cruise down the main street. McQueen and Sally took one or two of those drives during the evening.

Mater was having a lot of fun, but at some point he had to sneak away. He'd secretly been planning a welcome-home gift for McQueen. Since the race car had missed an entire summer of best-friend-fun, the tow truck was planning a big surprise for tomorrow: tractor tipping in the biggest field he could find! But first, he'd need to find the perfect tractor field.

He followed the back roads towards the tractor fields, and tried to be quiet. But he couldn't stop thinking about how much fun he and McQueen would have the next day, and kept chuckling.

When he reached the tractor fields, he got a nasty surprise. The fields were all the same size! His tow cable lowered in disappointment. There went the perfect plan. Then, he had an idea. What if he just put all of the tractors from two fields into one field? Double the tractors, double the fun!

He quickly opened the gate and started to drive through the pasture. The tractors were all asleep, and it was all Mater could do to not honk his horn and start tipping early. But he knew that he'd have to wake them up gently to get them moving into the other field.

Once he'd woken up the tractors, Mater cracked his tow cable like a whip and got them all into the next field. He admired his work. McQueen was in for a big surprise tomorrow! He then remembered the party, and quickly turned around. If they started looking for him, then the surprise was ruined!

"Mater!" The Sheriff called when the tow truck reappeared at the cafe. "Where'd you go? I was about to come looking for ya."

Mater did his best to look innocent. "I was...nowhere. Just takin' a drive."

Sheriff didn't seem to believe him. The police car was about to reply when a sound came from down the road. Everyone turned to face the main road. They were used to customers by now, but it was past nine at that point.

Mater drove forward a bit, and heard the sound of mooing. He realized what was coming, and that he'd made a big mistake. He'd forgotten to close the gate!

The tractors, likely agitated by Mater waking them up, had apparently followed him back to town. Sheriff pulled up alongside Mater, and quickly put two and two together. He was clearly annoyed at the tow truck, but flipped on his light and went into action.

"Everyone, listen up! We've got tractors headed our way!"

"Not again!" Luigi yelled, speeding for his shop. Guido, swearing in Italian, followed him. The last time tractors had made their way into town, they'd lost a few good tires.

Everyone else began to chase the tractors away. While they were harmless, the farm vehicles could make a big mess if left to their own devices. McQueen, for one, was happy to chase tractors. It reminded him of when he was still new in town, and seemed to him the perfect way to end his first night back home.

Once the tractors were rounded up, Mater silently herded them back to the fields. He felt horrible. Not only had he ruined the surprise for McQueen, but he'd ruined the party, too!

He put the tractors into their field (triple checking the gate), and began to drive back to town before deciding that he didn't want to face anyone yet. Maybe a drive would help him feel better. He got off the main road and started to drive to Willy's Butte.

Mater was so lost in thought that he didn't see the odd green contraption until he'd driven over it. It beeped twice before locking onto Mater's back left tire, trapping him.

"What in the--?" He tried getting free, driving as hard as he could. But it was no use. He was stuck! A sensor, too quiet for Mater to hear, began to go off.

Mater called for help, hoping that someone could hear him. Was he going to be stuck out there all night? Forever? What if the Ghost Light showed up? And who'd left the trap anyway?

"We've got something!" The security guards and a handful of scientists gathered around the monitor, most of them talking over one another in excitement.

Stevens pushed his way through, trying not to get his hopes up. Once the search teams had come back empty handed, Dr. Moteur had ordered that they set traps around the bottom of the mountain, realizing that the creatures had somehow gotten down.

Now, one of the traps had been activated. And not a moment too soon. Dr. Moteur had been throwing a bit of a tantrum ever since the mountain search had failed. The cleaners had been spending the last two hours trying to fix his office.

Stevens was excited to get to work on studying the other creatures. The few tests they'd tried on the one they'd caught had ended...poorly. Who knew that those things could scream so loud?

Dr. Moteur interrupted his train of thought. "What are you waiting for, Stevens? I want a security team headed in that direction NOW!"

"Yes, sir! Right away!" He nodded at the head of security, who'd been watching the monitor. The head, known as Rimsworth, nodded back, and went to the intercom.

A smug grin appeared on Stevens face. Two freaks down, four to go.
