"Miss you will be discharged today" the nurse said in a cheery voice as she entered Leila's room. "What about my mother" Leila asked in reply. "Unfortunately, your mother will still have to stay in hospital for a few more days. Your father came to visit earlier, and he promised to look after you well" the nurse said again. Leila turned around abruptly from where she stood in front of the window. "What was he doing here?" she asked in a deadly voice. The nurse sighed and wished that there was something that she could do to help the girl. Her father, a war veteran, looked like a decent man, but coming from an abusive household herself, she knew that the abuser rarely looked like one to the outside world.
Leila sighed as she dialed a number on her phone. There was no way in hell that she'd stay with her father alone. After the third ring her friend Kelsey picked up. "Yo, idiot, where have you been?" she asked Leila. "Good morning to you too Kelsey. Can I come over? I'll tell you everything later" she replied. "Of course, why are you even asking?" she replied and hung up. Leila knew that it won't be a problem to stay over at Kelsey's place since her parents rarely knew what their daughter kept herself busy with. Her father travelled a lot for his job and her mother was a social butterfly.
After the doctor checked up on her one last time and she signed her discharge forms Leila pulled over a taxi to Kelsey's place. The drive was short and before she knew they stopped in front of Kelsey's home, where her friend was waiting for her in the driveway. "You look like shit, let's fix that shall we?" Kelsey said as she pulled Leila into a warm embrace, a sad look on her face as she knew that her friend suffered at the hands of her father again.
