The next day at school

He didn't show up.

Even though i was accepted among the "geeks" , I really didn't consider any of them friends.

I pushed my salad around my plate, and desided to go sit outside to eat.

I always felt better when I was outside.

My breath was knocked out of me, when I looked up to see him sitting on the bench. I clenched the plastic container that held my salad and walked up to him.

                "hi."

I said and nervously sat beside him. He smiled and nodded in acknowledgment. I began eating my salad, and stared up at the leafs that decided to fall every once in a while.

"Personaly, white was a better color for you."

I was shaken out of my daydream.

"huh?"

"Your hair.... it was better white."

My half smile turned into a small frown.

He didn't like it.

"Oh right." I said.

"I saw you yesterday, at the cemetary." He said.

"Oh right..." I said, closing the container on my salad.

I wasn't hungry anymore.

"Yea, I was visiting my mother." I said.

"I was visiting my sister. She was 29, and was hit head on by a drunk driver....." He left the window open for me to say how my mother died.

Curious I presume.

"Cancer....my mom died from cancer." I whispered. He nodded.

"My condolence-" We both said at the same time, I gigled and, he laughed slightly.

"Im M-"

"Mariah, and I'm -"

"Derek."

He laughed, and so did I.

I geuss we knew

more about each other

 than I thought.
