"Only monsters lurk in the night."
~
In the village of Castro, a great evil had only stuck out its neck at night. While the villager's slept soundly, the evil that lurked would begin to set fire to different parts of Castro, robbing them of their homes. Everyone would be awoken, forced to wait till the water dragon had put out the fires; they then would seek refuge in different homes till the next day when they'd rebuild.
After multiple nights of endless attacks, the leader of the village decided that something had to be done, so the next day he made an announcement that traveled far and wide, calling only the best protectors to help defend Castro as the citizens slept safely. These protectors were known as the Night Riders.

Brina grumbled to herself as she buckled her belt around her waist, sliding her silver ruby-encrusted dagger into its holster. She had yet to get any decent sleep again for the fourth day in a row and it was all his fault. Pinning her long dark hair into two dutch braids, she studied her appearance in the mirror, wondering to herself why she couldn't have been born into royalty instead of the protectors. Her mother had always lectured her about the riders but never informed her that she would one day have to be one.
The dark-haired girl double-checked her outfit, making sure that she had everything she needed for the night's watch before she grabbed her bow and case of arrows, slinging them over her shoulders and walking out of her tent, beginning her way to the center of the campsite.
As she walked Brina observed the other Riders, whether it'd be them rapidly searching for their weapons or taking their time on dinner, she scoffed at how immature the selected crowd was during a time as crucial as this. There were only a few that actually knew how to do their jobs, others were sent by their parents on a quest to become more thankful for their home lives. But the Night Riders wasn't just a camp group to send your child to so they'd behave, it was far beyond that.
She approached the bonfire, facing the stand of where the leader would shortly be. She stood with her hands on her belt instead of by her sides, her bow would be much more accessible.
Hearing laugher, she turned her head and looked to her right only to roll her eyes. Standing not even ten feet away from her was none other than the infamous Dorian Sander, and his two friends, Lux and Lorcan, laughing at all that passed them. At this point, them making fun of the other Riders didn't surprise anyone. The only reason he was at the camp was that he was named to be the best Night Rider in all of the lands, but Brina labeled him to be the most arrogant.
The sound of his voice was enough to make her blood boil, a sound that she wished not to hear ever. But it was a sound that she could never escape, no matter how many corners she turned.
Dorian felt eyes on him, he always did, but not eyes like these. They felt different, mostly swooning over his hair or physique, but these felt cold, deadly. He turned his gaze from his friends only for his blue eyes to meet Brina's green ones. Her glare was hard, her expression was cold, she seemed irritated. This only caused his ego to grow twice its size as he sent her a sly smirk, knowing that it would annoy the crap out of her.
The brunette quickly looked away, determined to not let him get what he wanted. Every girl at the camp would practically jump at the chance to have a one-of-a-kind night with Dorian, but Brina could never imagine doing anything with such a vile soul. She believed him to be a prick, always getting what he wanted and never what he deserved.
"He's just a bastard, let him do bastard things," a voice said from beside her. The girl didn't have to think a second thought before knowing who it was. "Pretty cruel way to talk about your family now is it, Lexa?'' Brina turned towards her friend, raising an eyebrow.
