"What good are you if you can't even do sh*t for me."

Jessica's eyes brimmed with tears as she slowly moved her hands over the plates, struggling to keep herself in check.
"You can't do chores, you can't lift things and you've proven to be a sorry excuse for a daughter. You're fourteen, Jessica! Start acting like a homely woman. Your husband would be disappointed to see you like this in the future, so you'd better learn to serve him for the rest of your life. And your kids, too."

Jessica's breath hitched, thinking on her mother's words from the dining table as the older woman sipped on her wine.

"Y-Yes mother." was all she could say.
"Your father would be disappointed in you, too."

Dad.

"She can't keep doing this to you, Jess. It's ruining your soul." John told her as they sat in their room.
Jessica sighed.
"No. Mother has a point. I can't do anything right."
"Just because you're a woman doesn't mean you have to kneel down to a man for the rest of your life. You make your own rules. And besides... you've been wanting another identity for a while now haven't you?"
Jessica looked at him, feeling her eyes get teary again.

"It's okay to tell me, we are siblings. We can talk." John reassured her, placing his hand on her tied brown hair.

"I... I'm bisexual, John. B-But I don't feel like I want to be a girl. I don't feel right being a girl. I... Wanna be a guy. But I don't want to turn manly or be set to make stereotypes. I just want to be myself."
John smiled at that, hugging her as she sniffled into his shirt.

"How's Via?"
"She's good. I think I might confess to her soon, since the spring formal is coming around."
Jessica smiled at that.
"That's nice... do you think dad would hate me if he ever knew what was happening?"
"No, I know he would love you very much. He'd only resent mother more. He had the right to leave."
Jessica nodded at that.

"Right."

"HOW DARE YOU!"

Jessica held her hand to her mouth, curled up on the floor as her mother violently slapped her and hit her with many items, pain inflicting on her hips and thighs.
"Don't you ever talk back to me again you brat! I'm your mother and I control your life for you, understand that?"
Jessica only whimpered in response.

She was fifteen now, her sixteenth birthday was coming up.

Her mother growled at her.
"You'll pay for this... you think you can make your own life? I'll get you a husband and see how you like that."

No... no.

Jessica had it all planned out.

Australia was beautiful, it was her home. But it wasn't where she wanted to be.
Via even went in on the with the plan, she sympathized with the girl's fears and what was happening.
They would leave, not just out of the city, but out of the country.

They had their passports ready and thanks to a friend, they went under the radar from Jessica's mother.
She had had enough of the beating and her control on her life.

I'm marrying and loving whoever I want, and you won't tell me otherwise.

The plane ride to South Korea was long, but it was worth it once the three of them arrived safely in Seoul. Jessica didn't really know the language, but John helped her and even aided Via in the foreign tongue.
They settled down in many different places, in fear of her mother finding them. They found a nice place, and when Jessica turned seventeen, she knew what she had to do.

"I want the surgery. For good." She said.
Via and John smiled up at her as they ate at the dining table, Via holding her hand.
"Whatever makes you happy." John said.

They booked the appointment, the three of them standing in front of the operation room as the doctor looked at them and they exchanged hugs to Jessica.
"Good luck, Jess." John said.
"Good luck!" Via smiled.
"Thank you."

Jessica went off inside with the doctor...

And hours later, there was a new person.
It took a while to adjust to the new body, but it was worth it.
Perhaps instead of being homeschooled by John, a school would be nice to go to.
Maybe make new friends.

"Jess,"
"Hm?"
He looked up at John from the papers he was signing, blinking.

"You need a new name before you go back to school, Jessica." He said.
"That's true." Jessica said, twirling his own around in his hand.

"Let's keep it simple. How about..."

"Jake."
