Yeji and Sunghoon were sat together on the couch, eating some nicely fried chicken nuggets. The silence was quite unsettling, but they tried to make some conversation.
The thing was, their parents were rarely ever home. Off doing business, talking to clients and such... but they never really had time to get that close. They were close but... not as close as they would have been if their parents stuck around for the first 10 years of their lives. Still, they tried frequently and things were going okay, for the most part.
"How was school today?" Sunghoon asked her. "It was okay, just the usual. Kids being loud and annoying the teachers... being unable to get anything done. You?" Sunghoon laughed, nibbling on the side of the nugget. "Pretty much the same." He smiled.
It was getting pretty late, so they decided to call it a night and get some good sleep before the next day.
They were both in their pj's, Sunghoon wearing a blue set with penguins all over and Yeji wearing a yellow one with white polka dots. If you couldn't tell, Yeji likes yellow.
"Goodnight. Let's hope mom and dad are here when we get back tomorrow." Yeji sighed. "Yeah. Night." Sunghoon closed the door of his room that was across from Yeji's, immediately turning off the lights and flopping onto the bed. Sunghoon took a look at his phone, eying the date written on the lock screen with a rose background.
Nᴏᴠᴇᴍʙᴇʀ 19, 11:19 ᴘᴍ
Sunghoon sighed, turning off his phone and turning around to face the window. He smiled weakly at the moon. "The 19th... fifty days without a proper day with mom and dad."
— Sunghoon settled into his home room the next morning, taking out his necessities from his bag.
He slowly began to revise the notes relating to math, not noticing the girl that sat next to him. "Morning, Sunghoon." He looked up, smiling at the black haired girl before looking back at his notes. She was Soeun, who Sunghoon knew the longest. They had been friends since grade two and were practically inseparable. Thanks to Soeun, Sunghoon was actually able to make some friends in middle school.
He didn't know her girlfriend Jimin very well, but he respected her nonetheless, for he had seen her dodgeball skills a few times already.
"As distant as ever I see. Did you get page 230 done?" She asked him. "Yeah." "I did too. I know that at least half of these dumbasses didn't do shit with their homework." "Yeah, because we're the only responsible ones here." Sunghoon kept his eyes on the page, putting up his hand beside him. Soeun gave him a high five, Sunghoon smiling and putting his hand back down.
The class was getting louder as more kids filed into the classroom, and they soon quieted down as their teacher came in.
"Alright class, settle down. Take out the homework from last night please." Mr. Min, their math teacher, said. They all obeyed.
After going over the work and doing another short lesson, they had some free time to do extra work.
"Hey, did you hear?" one kid in front of Sunghoon whispered to their friend. Sunghoon didn't look up from his textbook, but he kept his ears wide open.
"There's supposed to be a transfer student coming in from abroad. I think Mr. Min will tell us..." "Oh, that's interesting. We don't get many of those here do we?" "No." "How'd you know anyways?" "Oh, I heard it when I was in detention. Miss Park mentioned it." "Oh."
Transfer student?
A few more minutes passed by, and low and behold, Mr. Min made his speech. "Okay class before you go, I have an announcement to make. On Monday, we will be having a transfer student come in and learn with us. They may be in your other classes as well, so please keep in mind that if they are, then do try to be kind and help them get to know that place. With that, I'll let you go early to your next class."
Getting close to a transfer student? I wonder...
Sunghoon shook his head, throwing himself away from his thoughts as he quickly packed up. He left the room with Soeun, off to their next class.
