That night Ariel lay awake thinking about the party tomorrow and imagining Alex cutely flirty with Chloe, giving her cute complement, laughing at all of her jokes, blushing each time she said something sweet and twirling his thumbs as he confesses his undying love for her. Ariel's stomach clenched.

Sometimes she wondered, "why Chloe?", but she knew exactly why. Everyone loved her, she was practically the most popular and gorgeous girl in school. She looked down at her long straight black hair, twirling it around her petite delicate fingers and sighed.

"Maybe I should dye my hair blonde, just like Chloes. Maybe then he'll like me." she scoffed. Even  with blonde hair he still wouldn't return her feelings. Deep down Ariel knew it was probably much more that made Alex admire Chloe so much.

The thought of Alex only ever thinking of her as a friend made her stomach twist. But she didn't want to get her hopes up expecting him to ever return her feelings, that would only make her hurt more.

Eventually Ariel drifted to sleep, hugging her pillow, pretending she was holding Alex's warm, lanky body.

The next morning woke up to the sound of her phone buzzing on her bedside table. She groaned and turned her body over on her pillow, carefully reading the name on her phone.

"Alex?! What?" she carefully reached for her phone and answered, pressing the phone to her ear.

"ARIEL!! IVE BEEN MESSAGING YOU ALL DAY!" Alex yelled through the phone.

"W-what? How could you have called me all day when it's still early in the morning.." she groaned.

"What are you talking about? It's 5pm!! you slept in!! We planned on meeting at 5 so we could go to the party together!" said Alex, sounding worried and a bit disappointed.

Ariel swallowed, "Ah- i'm sorry! I forgot to set my alarm... i'll be at your house ASAP!"

"fine. see ya!" the phone beeped as he hung up.

Ariel instantly scrambled out of bed and picked out a cute black laced tank top with ripped jean shorts and a silver cross necklace. She then applied black liner and mascara, blush, and and a hint of maroon red on her lips.

Finally, she put on her shoes and ran out of her house, straight to Alex's. He only lived one block away, so she was sure she'd arrive on time. On the way she tried to mentally prepare herself to watch Alex gushing over the sight on Chloe.

She finally arrived and knocked at Alex's front door. As she heard him running down the stairs she fixed up her hair and put in her best smile

"Hey! You made it" C'mon, let's get in the car, my moms waiting." He said as he opened the door, with a welcoming smile on his face.

God, he was adorable. Ariel tried he best not to stare to long and nodded. This was it. It was time for the party.
