~Tallulah's POV~
I watch out my window as I leave behind the only home I can remember. Leaving behind the family I had made. Leaving behind my brother. Leaving behind my sister.
My fingers find their way to the ring sitting on my necklace and I feel a few tears slip down my cheeks. I wipe them away, not wanting them to notice. I can feel Nat looking back at me, watching me, but I ignore it.
"Tallulah?"
"Yes." I manage as a barely audible whisper.
"Are you okay?" Her face is full of concern. I don't understand why though, it's not like they even know me.
"Yes." I know she can tell that I'm lying, but what else am I going to say? She drops the subject and turns back to face the front, nodding at Steve.
"Okay, Tallulah. We should probably start explaining." Steve starts his sentence before I interrupt him.
"Explain what?" The question escapes before I can stop myself. I snap my head down as I start to panic. What are they going to do? I just interrupted him. Is he going to hit me?
"Have you ever heard of the Avengers?" He continues on with what he was saying.
"Umm. Well I have heard some of the older kids talk about them. But not really, sir." I answer truthfully, wondering where they are going with this.
"Ok well, the Avengers are kinda like superheroes. They help save the world from the bad guys and what not." I nod along signaling for him to continue.
"This is where things get interesting, see, Nat and I are part of the Avengers."
"Oh." I don't say much but I have a lot of questions going through my head. Wait, does that mean they are superheroes? Well duh, they just said they were Avengers. That means I just got adopted by superheroes. Oh my goodness.
They chuckle at my reaction. "So instead of living in a house, like other families do, right? We live in the Avengers compound. So it's like a big building with lots of different people there."
"L-lots of people?" My heart has started thumping loudly again as I think of having to meet so many people.
"Oh honey, don't worry. They are all very nice, I promise they wont hurt you. If you want, you don't even have to talk to them if you don't want to, just until you're comfortable. How does that sound?" Nat talks soothingly to me.
"Oh ok. That sounds alright then. Thank you ma'am." The couple frown at each other at my use of words. I called Steve ,sir, before and I got the same look from both of them.
"Ma'am? Tallulah, you know you don't have to call me ma'am right. Or Steve, sir, for that matter. You can call us Nat and Steve, or whatever you want, we don't mind."
"Oh. I- I'm sorry. I didn't know." I start to worry if they are going to get mad at me.
"You don't need to be sorry. It's alright. We don't mind." Nat watches me calm down.
"Tallulah? We are not going to hurt you. I promise." I give them a small smile in response.
After a few minutes of comfortable silence we pull up in front of a massive building. IT'S HUGE! I have never seen anything like it. Not that I've really seen any buildings outside the Home but I am guessing that not every building is this humongous.
Steve comes around and opens my door, I slide out of the seat and onto the ground and I freeze as I look at the building in front of me.
"Pretty cool, hey kiddo?" He chuckles at my reaction.
"Yo-you live here?" I still can't believe it.
"We sure do. Now you do as well. C'mon, let's get you inside and settled."
We walk towards the big glass doors that are spinning in a circle, I hesitate not knowing what they are when Nat grasps my hand and helps lead me in. We stand in a section of the big glass circle and it spins us round until we step out inside the building.
There are lots of people walking around what I'm presuming is the lobby, it's like the one back at the Home, just ten times bigger. Almost everyone stops and stares at me, I start to feel my heart speeding up and a large man in a black suit approaches us.
"Who's this?" He looks questioningly at me, he looks stern but in the same way, very friendly.
"This," Steve grabs my other hand that isn't currently being held by Nat's. "Is Tallulah. She is going to be staying with us. We will get her scanned into the system once she settles in a bit."
"Alrighty then. Hello Miss Tallulah, welcome aboard." He gives me a big smile which I return with the biggest one I can manage, which isn't very big.
We make our way to the elevator and head on up to floor 27.
