~Tallulah's POV~
As the doors open I see a huge room with a kitchen, decked out with all the appliances you could ever need on one side and on the other a bunch of couches around a mini table and a TV. Well I am assuming it's a TV, we were never allowed to watch it at the Home but the older kids have talked about them before.
In the middle of the room is a big dining table and a hallway. I look around the room and notice a bunch of people sitting either at the table or on the couches.
As we walk in they all turn and look at us, their eyes falling on me. Nat and Steve had let go of my hands when we got into the elevator, but now I'm wishing they hadn't. My breathing starts to speed up so I hide behind Nat.
A lady with long brown hair and a red jacket walks over to us, followed by two other men. One of the men has a shiny arm, which I think is awesome, the other has dark skin and short hair.
"Is this the one?" The lady with the long brown hair starts talking to us as the other two men catch up.
"Yep. Sam, Bucky and Wanda, meet Talllulah." Nat kneels down and brings me slightly in front of her. I turn around and cling onto her shirt, burying my head in her chest. She shares a chuckle with the others and lifts my head up to meet hers.
"Oh honey, it's okay. These are our friends, they live with us. They are really nice; I promise."
I turn around to look at them, still keeping my tight grasp on Nat's shirt. I feel safe with her, I don't know why, but I do."Hey Tallulah. I'm Sam, this goof next to me with the shiny arm is Bucky." His comment about Bucky makes me giggle slightly.
'Hey! That's not very nice." He mocks being offended and then chuckles.
"Oh boys," Wanda kneels down and meets my eyes. "Hey little miss, I'm Wanda."
"H-hi." It's barely audible but I managed to get it out. Nat ruffles my hair with a proud look on her face. Wanda responds with a big smile.
The group starts to make their way over towards the kitchen.
"You hungry, Hon?" Nat guides me over towards the tall stools along the kitchen bench.
I shrug, never really been asked this question, I'm not quite sure how to respond, "I- I guess."
"Alrighty. What do you want?" She lifts me up and places me on a stool next to Wanda.
"What- what do I want?" I don't understand what she means. Her eyebrows furrow and she directs her attention towards me.
"Yeah. What do you want to eat? I'm sure we've got something you might like."
"Oh. I don't know. Whatever you have is fine."
Wanda turns to face me as Nat and Steve exchange a worried glance. "Tallulah?"
"Y-yes." I turn to face her wondering if I did something wrong.
"What did you eat at the orphanage?"
"Oh," I sigh in relief that I haven't done anything. "Well, at breakfast we have oatmeal and for supper we have vegetable mash."
All the adults in the room exchange a glance before looking back at me.
"What about lunch? Is that all you would eat? Didn't you get hungry?" Steve voices the question on everyone's minds.
"We don't have lunch. We just have breakfast and supper. I guess, but it didn't really matter because you weren't going to get any more food. You get used to it."
"Okay, well now you are with us and that means that whenever you are hungry you can let any of us know and we will get you something. Okay?" Nat responds.
"Oh okay." Already, this place is very different from the Home. I just wish Henry and Ivy were with me. I miss them so much already.
Nat makes me a sandwich and places it onto a plate with some berries on the side. I take a bite of the sandwich and It's brilliant, I've never had anything like it.
I eat about half of it before moving on to try the berries. The adults are making light conversation around me as I eat. The strawberries and blueberries are super sweet and I finished about half of them as well.
I start to fidget with my fingers and tap my shoes on the bar of the stool. I don't think I'll be able to finish all of the food. I feel sick from eating so much, this is more food than I've had in a long time. Will they be mad at me for not eating it all? I don't want to make them mad, they are really nice. The nicest adults I've ever met, actually.
Sam notices my fidgeting and draws the attention back onto me, "Are you okay, Tallulah?"
If I tell them will they get mad? They seem really nice though, not at all like the adults at the Home."Yeah. I'm sorry, I don't think I can eat all of this. I'm really sorry" I reply just loud enough for them to hear me.
"Oh that's alright hon. That's on me, I probably gave you way too much. I am used to the boys eating all the food we have." Nat gives the boys a playful glare before giving me a warm smile.
Steve looks at Nat for confirmation before turning to face me again, "So Tallulah, Nat and I have arranged for your bedroom to be next to ours. We have some basic furniture in there for you but we thought that maybe tomorrow we could go get some stuff for your new room. Does that sound okay?"
"I- I have my own room?" I get over the shock of having my own room and manage to get out my question.
"Of course you do! Do you wanna see?" Steve stands up from his seat at the kitchen bench as the others follow.
"Yes please!" I follow the others' actions and get off of my stool.
