i've had this wip since october of 2021. it will never be finished. but i worked on this for like two months and it'd be a waste not to show it. i'm so sorry.

anyways as per usual they/she pronouns for levi (she doesn't mind he/him but prefers those two) and xe/he pronouns for light 💜🖤 luca is here for like two minutes and he uses he/ze

this was meant to be part of a series called the "monochromeverse" and it was about levight's daily lives. i might still write their first meeting in this au bc i thought it was cute and it plagued my mind for weeks. fuckign levight brainrot.

Light's childhood treasure is a ratty stuffed bunny named... Conejito. As in, the Spanish word for bunny. Yeah, Light wasn't exactly the best with naming things but in xyr defense, xe couldn't have been older than four.

"I think my grandma made him for me?" xe explained when xe showed Levi the little rabbit, "or maybe it was my uncle. I don't remember."

In any case, Conejito was less of a toy and more of a jumbled ball of fabric falling apart at the seams. One of his ears was nearly torn off, exposing the stuffing inside. He was missing an arm and there were multiple stains littering his body. His little purple poncho was so torn to shreds that Levi didn't even know it was a poncho until Light told them later. Still, they couldn't help but find the bunny just as endearing as his old owner.

"He's cute." Levi had said. Light only laughed.

"I know he's not. But that's okay. I'll throw him away after I finish unpacking." he put Conejito down and went to unload the rest of his things into his — and Levi's — new home.

Levi wasn't sure what prompted them to do so, but they picked up Conejito and put him in their room (they're still not sure how Light never noticed that he was missing but Levi blames it on the stress of the move). Over the course of the next week, between helping Light move in, they had repaired Conejito significantly. They stitched small holes back up, sewed his ear back on, and scrubbed out whatever stains they could before putting him in the washing machine. Later they found a scrap of purple fabric to use as a new poncho and added a little white ribbon around his neck, tying it into a bowtie. Conejito was almost unrecognizable from the dirty rabbit plushie Light first showed them.

After that, Conejito had a permanent home in Levi's bedroom. He sat on his bedside table next to the books they'll never read. A few days later, Light came into their room to borrow something or other and spotted his old stuffie immediately, staring at the bunny with an unreadable look on his face.

"What's up?" Levi asked as they saw xem quietly standing in place.

"You kept him." was all Light said.

"Who?"

"Conejito. You- you kept him."

"Oh. Yeah. I hope that's okay."

Light continued to stare at Conejito, so unusually still that Levi was worried that they had made xem angry somehow.

"Why?" he asked, breaking the silence between them.
