The tube line, boring as ever. The noise of us all whizzing through tunnels, but the silence as nobody spoke. Either on phones, listening to music, or starring into nothing with thoughts rattling off to nowhere important.
I always had my headphones in playing the same old songs over and over until I arrived at work. Long days always started and ended with the same music. I often thought it was like having my own theme tune. But that rlly was just another one of those thoughts I'd use to pass the time.
Some days the tube wasn't so full of dread. I'd always travel at different times, but if I left work early enough on a Friday I'd be able to see this girl. She's always on the other side of the carriage, headphones in, minding her own business but something about her made me out a smile onto my face. Whenever she peered onto her phone she lit up with excitement. I don't know why, she could have had a boyfriend, but it always made my day.
Soon I started trying to leave as early as possible on Fridays just so I can watch this girl again. It began to make the tube a less lonely place
Until one day, her phone screen was flickering against her turquoise glasses and I couldn't take my eyes off it. It was like a firework show in her eyes, but as she glanced up to them tube carriage and looked at all the empty souls around her...
