So that was it. The only thought crossing mymind was a memory for about four years ago. I was standing inside of the bakery, looking out the window, at the pouring rain, when something caught my attetion. A figure, a small human figure curved against a tree. My mother was screaming something about stealing from our trash at my father, which made absolutely no sense to me, since it was actually our trash. That was when she looked up. She was pale and wet, probably had been looking around for something to feed her family with all day long. She was a girl, a girl I’d seen at school before… She was Katniss Everdeen. MY mind went through a discussion with itself but there wasn’t so much to think about. I turned the oven to it’s maximum etmperature…

The bread was burnt.

My mother, angry, ran to me slapped me right on the nose… She screamed something I don’t even want to remember, but one of those was ‘take the bread out to the pigs’.

Which I did… Or something like that.

I did take the breadout… But threw it the other way instead. I threw it to her. Her tired lips curved into a smile as she took the bread in her hands and ran away, as if I was going to try and catch her for that.

And now, that girl who’s life I’d saved, was going to The Hunger Games, to a certain death.

Effie now approached the other cristal poll, with the boys’ names and took a paper out. Simple as that, she read the two words that would change my life.

“Peeta Mellark”

Katniss’ eyes widened as much as mines.

She remembered. I remembered. We remembered.

I took a few steps forward and stood onto the stage.

One only thought crosses my mind.

“It’s either her life of my life.”

And the worst part is… I’m pretty sure we both choose hers.
