A Woman Walks Into A Bar,
Confiding in barstools about a man who hasnt come. If any walk by, Sarah winks at boys in gray suits.
"Dan?" Sarah turns.
"It is you -- isn't it, Darling?" Dan holds Sarah in a stiff hug. "You look good."
"I look thirty!"
"Things go." Dan says. "I lost my curls." The man was bald.
"Oh, Dan. It wasn't your hair. It was that laugh, those lips." A hiccup burst from Sarah's gut. "You call all the girls you didn't know darling."
"Do you want a tonic or anything?"
Sarah slurs body over bar top, "Did you marry that girl?"
"I did."
"The law major? Good."
"It didn't work out, but I got two little girls out of it."
"So you did want kids."
Dan scans the dirty, city windows, "How about a vodka tonic."
Sarah licks the rim of her glass and shrugs.
"You know I dad call."
"I know. I was a kid."
"I Know."
Dan lifts his glass of pop to his lips and smirks: "I am waiting for a girl my mom found at a laundrymat."
"Oh."
"What brought you out tonight?"
Sarah slips off a stool and lays a bill down on the sticky bartop: "Just a drink, darling."
