After Senju and Y/n had arrived back at their dorm, Y/n instantly crawled into bed. She just held herself in the fetal position and wailed. She wanted her mom to hug her and tell her everything was going to be okay. She was home, home with Senju and she was safe. She cried like a baby for what felt like hours while Senju just rubbed her back. Giving her the comfort she craved. Takeomi had shown up, late in the night or early in the morning Y/n couldn't tell, but he had a bottle of wine and she needed it. The three of them sat in the dorm all morning, drinking. Y/n was quiet but at least responsive. She didn't shut down and crawl into herself like a turtle.
Outside the dorm Senju spoke with her older brother, "Do not go back home and start with Haruchiyo. Do not go back there telling him you spent the night comforting Y/n because you didn't. WE did. You purposely brought up her brother and it obviously needed to be said but that wasn't right. And I know you want to be the shoulder she cries on but I think she's had enough to do with the men in our family, don't you?"The next few weeks Y/n only cried to herself. In the late night or in the shower. She kept a positive disposition in front of everyone. The only person who saw through it was Senju. "The school year is over Y/n, go visit Nami. She's in Greece now."
"How am I supposed to get to Greece?"
Senju shrugged and then smirked, "Akashi did say if you needed anything to help heal your heart, he'd give it to you." She wiggled her eyebrows, "Now he might've meant his dick but I think I can convince him to give you a plane ticket instead."Y/n had cried, cried for her heart, her brother, herself, her own stupidity, and she cried for Haru. She knew his addiction had taken over his life. He had lied and he had loved her, but he loved his vices more.
Y/n spent months overseas with Nami, taking a year off of school to focus on herself. She had cried and now it was time to heal. After taking the time to heal her heart and mind, Y/n returned to Tokyo. Her mother had sold her childhood home and bought a small house in Japan's countryside. She did not need even half of what she got for the home so she gave the leftover profits to Y/n. It was more than enough for Y/n to survive through the rest of college.
She used some of the money to start renting a single bedroom apartment off campus that Senju would often visit. Her best friend had kept Y/n's return a secret.
For the next three years she powered through school. She had changed her major from criminal justice and law to criminal justice and psychology. After graduating she got a job in an office that helps newly released inmates get back on their feet. Whether it was helping them find jobs or just being a friend to talk to, Y/n got a lot of fulfillment and happiness from her line of work. A lot of criminals ended up back in the system but the success stories made a big impact.
It had been five years since her heart was broken by the only man she had ever loved.
On her days off she often threw on comfortable clothes, grabbed whatever book she was currently reading and went to the café across the street from her apartment.
She balanced her newest novel on her hand while she waited in line to order. After thanking the staff and getting her drink she sat down in her usual spot. A small two seated round table, she would take the metal chair out and slid over one of the big leather ones close by. She did just that and curled up in the chair. She'd sit sideways in the seat, sometimes stretching out her legs or curling them into herself to cuddle up with her book. She uncurled and put her book flat on the table absentmindedly reaching for her cup of coffee. Then she felt eyes on her and she froze without making it obvious she was spooked. Before leaving Tokyo and when she had first returned Y/n had been very mindful of the people around her. After the break up with Haruchiyo she had been left paranoid and anxious.
It's fine, I'm fine, I'll just look up and see no one is even looking I'm just losing it because of the true crime shit I was watching yesterday.
When she looked up her eyes locked with the man sitting at the table in front of her. He quickly looked away and so did she.
Blue eyes.
He's got blue eyes, and black hair. If I look back up again it will be so obvious.
She read several more pages of her book and looked back towards the stranger. He was looking at her but played it off like he was reaching for his drink, his eyes focused back on his laptop in front of him.Oh, he's handsome. She thought as she also redirected her attention to her book. She read a couple more pages, tempted to look again but then she heard him close his laptop and his chair squeaked away from his table. Goodbye handsome stranger it was nice while it lasted. She was looking at her book but not really reading any of the words. A shadow came across her table and she looked up.
The handsome guy was currently putting his drink down at her table, then his laptop. He bent down to plug it into the wall and then sat in the chair across from her.
He's tall. Let's see blue eyes but they're soft. They look like my favorite denim jacket. Dress pants, sweater a button up underneath with the sleeves rolled up, damn those are nice arms, and dress shoes. Nothing designer so he isn't a business man or gangster. Clean cut. Hmmmm interesting.
Y/n turned her attention back to her novel, the man across from her was already back to typing away on his computer. After finishing a couple more pages Mr. Stranger spoke up, his voice deep and he spoke with clarity, "You were distracting me so I had to move my seat."
He remained focused on whatever he was typing. Y/n was feeling playful and willing to take the bait. "I was distracting you? And you moved to my table? To fix that problem?" She was still sitting sideways so she tilted her head looking at him with a raised eyebrow. He shared eye contact while reaching for his own coffee cup, "Yes, exactly." Taking a sip and then typing away again. "What's your name?" he asked.
"Mhhh can't tell you." He looked away from his laptop then fully focused on her. "And why's that?" It was her turn to give him a taste of his own medicine and looked at her book instead of at him,
"I'm wanted in several neighboring countries. I tell you my name and you'll call the reward hotline they have for anyone with information on me." His silence was actually killing her so she gave him back the opportunity to look at her face and in her eyes. He stayed quiet, looking over her entire face, really really looking.
"You're lying, you're not a fugitive."
"And how would you know Mr. Stranger?"
He smirked at the nickname and sipped his drink, "I'm a cop, I'd recognize your face if you were a criminal."
"Hmph," Y/n turned back to her book, pretending to be pouty over his lack of playfulness. They shared one more moment of eye contact, smiling softly, before they returned to their respected tasks at hand. A few more chapters into her book the guy across from her reached over to her drink turning it so he could read the writing the barista had put on it. Then he went in line and ordered them both second rounds. He placed her new drink next to the one she hadn't finished yet then took back his seat. He closed his laptop, sitting back slightly folding his arms and admired her. She felt his eyes back on her and she looked over closing her book.
"You should let me take you on a second date."
"A second date?"
He slowly nodded his head, "Yeah consider this the first one."
"Alright, and should I refer to you as Mr. Stranger or Officer Stranger?"
"Naoto," he huffed out a laugh, "My name's Tachibana Naoto."
