17 years later:
Alice's P.O.V.
It's incredible, how much your heart could ache in one day, and how long that heart ache can last.
Today is the anniversary of my father. The day he passed away.
Seven years ago today, he died.
The pain is always there, you just learn to deal with it. But on that day of every year, that pain seems to hit ten times harder.
They say it gets easier. It doesn't.
I remember the funeral, more than I remember finding my dad dead.
It was abnormally sunny for where we live. And everyone was in black, making all women, children, and men sweat like pigs. My mother was seated next to my grandmother, and grandfather. Our coffer was directly behind us. I was sitting on Chelsea's lap. I don't remember crying.
But I remember the secrecy in my mother's eyes. The way she wept. The way she was secretly holding hands with our coffer.
It was all too much for me to take in at the time. So I didn't think much about it. I still don't.
But today for some odd reason, I remembered that moment, that memory.
I look up at the light blue sky and cry.
It's 6 in the morning, and here on the mansion grounds I'm sitting by my father's gravestone.
"Alice dear?" Chelsea whispers out.
"Chelsea?" Hearing her name she perks up.
"Alice dear, your mom said she can't come home until next week." Now I know why she was whispering.
My mom can never come home. Even on the day of her husband's death. I am furious, but I show that by crying harder.
Chelsea pulls me into a hug.
"Your mom told me to tell you, she booked you an interview tomorrow at noon for a movie. She thinks you'll be perfect for it." I sigh dramatically.
She knows I'm nothing, and can't be what the want. Yet she keeps trying to get me to be that girl she wants. But I can't. I'm honestly just not worthy of it. I have black ratty hair, giant glasses, and not the best style.
"Ill be in in a minute Chelsea." She pats my back.
"Okay, dear. Take your time." She walks away to leave me to my thoughts.
I wish he was here at a time like this. He would tell me to just be myself.
But I don't even know who I am anymore.
