Machines.

They were absolutely fascinating to a certain officer from the DPD, who has been declared a genius ever since her first steps into kindergarten. Though machines weren't the only ones who specifically attracted her attention, oh no. Everything about the world fascinated her just as much.

The farthest galaxy, the deepest ocean, the tiniest cell, the biggest planet...nothing would go past her brain. That list included even...police investigations, apparently.

Although there was no doubt she was a genius, that wasn't necessarily the first trait people would notice when meeting her.

"Yo, scatterbrain!" a man with a scar going across his face called out, attracting some attention, though not from who he would've like to. The girl just continued spinning in her chair, pushing herself with one leg while balancing a pencil on her nose.

Gavin got closer, his arms folded impatiently. He had been partners with her since she had gotten hired and lord knows how he hasn't killed the woman yet. He lightly slapped the back of her neck once he didn't get a response, making the pencil fall down and the girl snap out of her thoughts.

"Oh, hi Gavin!" she smiled, crossing her legs on the chair and making him sigh.

"Did you do the report I asked you to?" he leaned on her desk, looking more and more like he wanted to be out of her sight.

"What report?" she spun around again.

"Last night's case? Remember?" he held back his fury, only smirking forcefully.

"Ahh!" she stopped her chair right in front of him. "Of course I did! I added in every detail like that little pipette I found filled with-"

"Yeah, yeah." he cut her off, knowing too well where this was going. "Well, thanks for doing it, nitwit, but from now on you'll have to be doing them all alone." he snickered, his nose scrunching up. The female detective furrowed her brows, her smile fading.

"But I've always been making them alone. Are you leaving me?" she asked, getting a strong pat on the back.

"I knew you'd catch on!" a fake enthusiasm engulfed his demeanor, after which he muttered "You always do..." with hatred, his whole face dropping into a scowl. "Have fun dying in the next case!" he exclaimed as he waved, his back already turned. They used to be partners and Gavin would always cover her, seeing as she was good in everything but physical actions.

"Huh..." she looked down for a moment before shrugging and beginning to spin in her chair again. Her rates of survival would lower significantly without a partner, she knew that too well, but what she also knew is that Fowler wouldn't have let Gavin leave if he wasn't planning on assigning her a new partner. Even if her ex partner tried to keep it a secret at first, she found out of his attempts of getting rid of their partnership, but the Captain would never agree, since she was pretty much a danger to herself.

That piqued her curiosity. What was Jeffrey planning exactly?

She got out of her chair and headed to his office before he could even shout after her. He wasn't surprised to see her enter his door.

"I was about to call for you." the Captain informed as she sat down in the chair beside him and began swinging her legs back and forth.

"I know!" she smiled with enthusiasm. Her weird behavior didn't phase the man. He just kept his blank face on, bracing himself for the reaction she'd have at his next words.

"Listen, I know you-"

"Am I getting assigned a new partner?" her eyes shined and Jeffrey grit his teeth at the interruption. Seeing his reaction, she apologized, though she didn't seem the least bit sorry.
