Description: Something's off with Hermione... what is it?
✨✨✨
A smile was plastered on Hermione's face that night. We were both in Head Dorms, having a sleepover, and she couldn't stop smiling. Even when we watched the saddest movie (Hermione got a TV in the room) in history,—The Tale of Rosie—she still smiled. The movie was about a dog who lost her home, her family, everything. The worst part was, it was a true story! I was in tears at the end, but Hermione was still smiling. I tried to get her to tell me why, but she wouldn't say.
Even at night, when we were about to fall asleep, her smile was still stretching across her face.
I woke up in the morning and looked over at Hermione, and still, she was smiling. I got up and got ready without waking her, and she didn't move at all. Then she woke up but she never stopped smiling.
"Hermione! Please tell me what you're so happy about!" I pleaded.
She just shook her head (still smiling), said "I'll tell you soon enough.", and walked away to get ready. I groaned. I didn't think I could wait 'soon enough'. Who knew how long 'soon enough' would be?!
Apparently, it was a week. Hermione came up to me on Friday, exactly a week since she has said "I'll tell you soon enough."
I was itching to know what it was. A few days prior, I had noticed something glittering on Hermione's hand at breakfast. But, before I could see what it was, she moved her hand away.
"Come on," she now announced. "I'm going to tell you now..."
And that she did. Hermione took me to the Room of Requirement. It looked like a... recording studio.
"Wha-" I started. "Why?"
"Just listen." Hermione took a guitar from the corner (I didn't know she played!), clicked play on a recording she must have made, started to play, and sang the words.
No.
Way.
"Oh my gosh, Hermione!" I exclaimed, jumping up and down in excitement "I can't believe you took that long to tell me!"
"Well, I wanted to write a song. And that took longer than expected." Hermione's smile was still big and lit up the room.
"I can't believe it!" Hermione was engaged. That was the glittering thing on her hand, and engagement ring! "So who is it?" I calmed down a little and sat on the couch that appeared. Hermione sat down next to me and, to my surprise, her smile faded a little.
"Hermione?" I asked, a little worried now, for her smile hadn't disappeared for a week.
"Um..." she paused, probably trying to find the right words. "You see... he's not someone you, uh... get along with."
"Okay... so he's someone I know?" She said that I don't get along with him, not something like I won't get along, but that I already don't.
"Yes." She confirmed. "You know him very well."
Hm... I contemplated my possible answers. Someone I don't get along with, but know very well... it couldn't be Ron, could it? Nah, Hermione would never fall in love with that git. Could it be... a Slytherin? I don't get along with any of them, but I don't know many of them very well. I only know the annoying trio. Parkinson, Malfoy, and Zabini. It couldn't be Parkinson, because Hermione already said it was a boy. But... Malfoy or Zabini? I never would have expected it of her.
"Can we play ten questions for me to figure out who it is?" I asked. Hermione nodded so I started with the first question. "Is he the same age as you?"
"Yes."
"Did he ever go to this school?"
"Yes."
"Is he currently going to school here?"
"Yes."
"Is he in Gryffindor?"
"No."
"Is he in Ravenclaw?"
"No."
"Is he... in Hufflepuff?" I readied myself for the answer.
Hermione took a deep breath before saying, "No."
So I was right, he was in Slytherin. Oh gosh... then it had to be either Zabini or Malfoy.
I had four questions left. "Does he play Quidditch... currently?" I knew that if it was Zabini or Malfoy, the answer would be yes. Even if it wasn't one of them, and the answer was yes, it was still narrowing it down a lot. There were only three people on the Slytherin Quidditch team that were Hermione's age. Zabini, Malfoy, and Nott.
If the answer was no... well, then it wouldn't help much.
"Yes," Hermione said, almost confirming my thoughts. Well, it narrowed it down to three.
"Does he have dark hair?"
"No."
Oh. Malfoy.
"Okay... it's Malfoy, isn't it?" I asked, already knowing the answer. Hermione nodded uncertainly. "Hermione..."
"No, you don't have to say it. I know... you're disappointed."
"What?" I said, confused. "Of course I'm not disappointed!"
"You're not?" Hermione looked up, hopeful.
"No! You're my best friend, and you deserve to be happy," I replied, then muttered so I thought she couldn't hear. "Even if it is the biggest git in the world."
"I heard that!" Hermione said.
"Sorry." I gave her a hug and stood up.
We walked out of the ROR but she turned to me quickly. "Oh, I wanted to ask..." her smile was back and bigger than ever. "Will you be the maid of honor?"
"Yes! Yes! Yes!" I jumped up and down with joy. Hermione's the best friend ever!
That's why, three months later, I was standing up to give a speech about my best friend. Sure, I embarrassed her, but what are best friends for?
After the ceremony, I marched up to Malfoy. "Draco Malfoy."
He turned to look at me, "Yes?"
"You better be nice to Hermione and don't make her do anything she doesn't want to... unless it's like, dishes or something. If you don't... I'm coming for you." I turned on my evil death glare.
Malfoy nodded, and I was very glad to see that he looked scared.
"Good!" I exclaimed, my features turning soft and I immediately looked delighted. "I always knew you were a good kid." I reached up to pat his head. Notice the words reached up.
I turned and walked away, leaving a very bewildered Draco Malfoy behind.
I ran to the deejay. "Fred, George, play this, will you?" I handed them a CD. It was a recording of Hermione's song. She hadn't realized, but when she sang in the recording studio, it was recording the song.
"Sure." Fred took the CD from me and popped it in the... thingamabob.
****************************************
After the song played, and Hermione and Malf—Draco danced to the song, Hermione came up to me and hugged me. "Thank you for everything."
"Of course Hermione, anything for you," I replied.
