Eleanor rubbed at her sleepy eyes with the palms of her hands. She had missed Hogwarts over the summer holidays, yet she hadn't missed the routine of waking up early every morning. One of her roommates, Kathleen Pickworth, had tried her hardest to get her out of bed but it didn't work in the slightest. When she had fetched Laurence in order for some help, however, he had no trouble with the task. He had ripped the duvet away from Eleanor's body and pushed her off the bed while wearing a joyful smile on his face the whole time. His smile later disappeared when she started throwing her pillows at him.

As Eleanor sat down next to Cedric at the Hufflepuff table, he slid a sheet of paper in front of her alongside a plate carrying two slices of toast. "The timetable is from Professor Sprout. The toast is from me," he said. "Sprout also told me to tell you to 'stay out of trouble' this year and that she wants you on your 'best behaviour.'"

"Professor Sprout says that every year," said Laurence with a lazy, dismissive flick of his wrist. "And besides, you're her favourite out of the whole house, Elle. Sprout would probably let you get away with murder. Not that it's a bad thing, I'm sure getting away with murder would be a useful skill in life."

"It is far too early for you to be plotting deaths, Laurie," Eleanor said and gave him a pointed look, "at least wait until midday."

"The earlier, the better." Laurence nonchalantly took a sip of his pumpkin juice.

"We all have potions together first," Alex announced as he compared their timetables. Eleanor perked up a little at the mention of potions. If you was to ask who the best potioneer was out of all the fifth years, you would automatically be given the name Eleanor Blythe. She was particularly gifted with that subject. Actually, she was particularly gifted all together.

Cedric's grey eyes went circular. "Snape first period? Merlin, give me strength," he mumbled sadly and slumped in his seat.

"Maybe he'll be a little less harsh this year," suggested Alex, but even those words felt foreign as they left his mouth and left a bitter aftertaste.

"Alex, my dear, I don't think the ability to be 'less harsh' runs through Snape's cold-blooded veins," Laurence said pointedly.

"You don't know that, Laurie," replied Alex.

"Have you ever even seen that man smile?" Laurence asked, fully prepared to make all the valid points that proved Snape would forever be a cruel person who liked to hold grudges.
