Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw had been looking forward to their next Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson ever since their last. Professor Lupin seemed to have that effect. Their previous teachers in this subject had been either lousy, incompetent or evil villains in disguise, it was safe to say that he was their favourite.

To everyone's surprise, it was not Professor Lupin who was to teach their class on this day. Instead, it was Professor Snape. He made sure to make a dramatic entrance of it all, his dark cloak billowing behind him as he charmed the windows tightly shut. Once he got to the top of the class, he turned to them all and stated, monotonously: "Turn to page 394."

Everyone was confused, exchanging looks with their partner or whispering something, but they did as they were told. When it came to Snape, you didn't argue against it, you just obliged in order to avoid the consequence. Next to Eleanor, Monica made sure to take her time in flipping the pages of her book, glaring at Snape as she did so. Eleanor didn't bother to even open the front cover. They both had a mutual dislike of the man.

All eyes landed on Alex as he shakily rose his hand. "Excuse me, Professor Snape?" he dared to ask , unable to meet the man's eyes. "Forgive me for asking but... where is Professor Lupin?"

Snape didn't pay so much as a glance to him. "Since when was it any of your concern?"

In a matter of seconds, Alex's face had turned bright red. "I— Well, I thought... I just was just wondering because— because—"

Realising that Alex was ready to stutter on his words for the next half an hour, Laurence cut in for him. "Because Professor Lupin is our designated teacher, not you," he stated, "And though you're not half bad on the eye, sir, you don't look like Lupin to me." A round of snickers were heard in the room.

"Thank you for your comedic input there, Mr Price - you managed to get a couple pity laughs," said Snape, bitter. "Your Professor is unavailable at this present moment and therefore incapable of performing his job," he snapped, "Perhaps you might actually learn something in this class for once. Turn to page 394."

Many people didn't take lightly to this comment about their professor. A few quite gasps could be heard throughout the class alongside a couple whispers. Eleanor was ready to build a case in defence for Lupin, but a Ravenclaw had already stood up from his chair.

"We learn more in this class than we ever have in potions," he said, fists clenched.

The resentment on Snape's face was more than evident. "Five points from Ravenclaw," he seethed. "Sit down, Mr Montgomery, you're making a fool out of yourself. Turn to to page 394."
