"You should be okay to leave for now", Mercy said after the exam. She still looked very worried though.
"Yeah? Why you sound so unsure then, Doc?", Jesse asked with a little tease. He could definitely feel the burn in his shoulder and down through his spine, just from putting his shirt and jacket back on.
"Because you look terrible. You are okay to leave for now. But I'm not allowing you on any missions for at least two more weeks", came the strict reply, as she scribbled something down on her clipboard.
What? Damn it. McCree looked at her, pleading, but he already knew there was no changing her mind on this. And deep down, if he was honest to himself. he wouldn't survive another mission any time soon.
"Please make sure he stays here and rests", Mercy asked of Genji, who was standing a little beside them. He was fumbling with some medical equipment that was laying around on a nearby table. There was just a nod in response. Genji hadn't talked since they came back. Not even to McCree. And the Cowboy was starting to worry about his partner.
It's been a hard mission. It started with both of them, accompanied by Reinhardt and Ana. Reinhardt as their shield and Ana as their backup healer. Nothing could go wrong with such a team, right? Wrong.
They've been sent to scope out a nest of evil omnic's. There were suspicions from the Overwatch head office that these omnic's were trying to recruit others to join their cause. Everything was rather quiet. Not much movement, just a few omnic's communicating in sound waves they could only barely hear. Soon after they split apart and left. The team had no reason to follow them, so they ended the observation and were almost ready to leave, as the attack happened. The null sector had sent a new type of omnic after them. Said omnic seemed to be on a suicide mission. When other modules would've left to not risk any major damage, this one only pushed harder. The team could barely fight back and it got even worse after Reinhardt went down. Jesse for sure thought the man was dead. And judging by the look on Ana's face she had thought the same.
But of course, the big man got on his feet again, and once again saved the day. Jesse was damn near passing out so he had no idea what exactly happened. Just all of a sudden, the fight was over, Reinhardt was bleeding all over the floor and Ana was yelling a lot in Arabic. And then his lights went out.
McCree later woke up in the medbay, already feeling better. The wonders of medicine, huh.
He'd been the last one getting examed. Tobjörn had already grumpily taken care of Genji, and Ana and Reinhardt were also patched up again. So after Mercy gave him a few more meds in case his headache came back, he took Genji by the hand and left towards the common rooms.
They met the rest of their team there, grouped up with Jack. All of them were huddled under blankets and were watching something on the TV across the room.
