"For Poseidon, Pearl, don't you even think of crossing the border of Atlantis," Oceanè screamed behind me.

"I have to go. This is my last chance, Oceanè." I shouted back at her in a firm voice.

"Pearl, you can't leave the waters; the king will behead me if he ever gets an ear of this. You love me, right? It would be best if you didn't betray me like this. At least take me with you."
She cried on top of her gills.

Poseidon!!! What in Marina trench would I even do with this overdramatic mergirl?

If my father hadn't known about my escape earlier, he would have learned by now.

Now, I'm sure enough that he is stationed at the border with his marine army.

Long way to go, pearl...

That didn't make me stop, though. I continued to swim, fast and focused.

But I stopped abruptly at the sight of the whole marine army stationed out at the border of Atlantis while my father, the king of Atlantis, Remus, was pacing back and forth in front of the gate.

Don't tell me, my father thought that his daughter, the princess of Atlantis, was a fool like Mola-Mola fish.

I mean, I do love them. Especially the female ones, they are larger than males, but these are some of the stupidest kinds I have ever come across.

I was getting offended that my father thought me of Mola when Oceanè grabbed my shoulder from behind, startling me.

"FINALLY!!" She screeched loudly.

"Don't scream for once, Oceanè." I covered her mouth, whispering.

I turned my head to see if they sensed something or not, but the damage was done.

My father was heading towards us, followed by a few armed mermen.

He couldn't see us cause we were hidden behind a huge rock, but that doesn't mean he couldn't sense us.

My father has this power, he could hear the minimal voice anywhere around the ocean, and he could heal the creatures with his magic.

He says that I, too, have many powers locked inside me. I have to find those and unlock them. But right now, this isn't the time to introduce everything oceanic when he was heading towards us. I have to leave before he locks me up in my room, only to unlock me on the day of my wedding with Pacificus.

Pacificus is the son of Atlantis's high minister. He is one of our kind's most beautiful mermen. He maintains a cool demeanor.

Everything about him, from his soulless eyes to his strange body paintings, is crafted by nature to drive any sound mind of any living creature in the universe insane.

He has the most gleaming blue mane, and his dark blue tail sparkles even in the stormy dusk. But his beauty has nothing to do with how he brutally kills the other sea creatures.

He is the most savage sea creature in our world. But nothing about him could ever make me fall for him.

He likes me, which I know for sure. We grew up together and lived nearby.

And I might've fallen for him a long time ago if I hadn't decided to swim to the shores and cross paths with the only being our species are forbidden to even look at.

A human.

Among all the beautiful yet fearsome species I've ever seen, this one is the most enticing one, but not in the fairy-tale-prince sense you might expect, nor the kind of person you'd look at and say 'he inspires a lifetime's worth of devotion.' Rather he is that yearning that causes the most agony. He carries himself with the radiance of Sirius, the brightest star in Earth's night sky.

His eyes are unlike anything I've ever seen before. But it wasn't his eyes that drew me in; his loathsome stare at the endless ocean-raw and vicious fascinated every cell in my body.

Even in the darkest of nights, his gaze was that of a starved animal looking for a reason to breathe.

It is the time of the night when your soul awaits your other half, and your eyes search distances to get a glimpse of the person your heart burns for. I saw him that night. I'd cross paths with the only being our species is not allowed to even look at.

As for the update, I am already swimming towards the forbidden area of Atlantis, the southeast gates. I'm just a few mere miles away.

But that is not what troubles me- the distance.

I am uneasy that no one is following me, not even Oceanè, and this place is eerily silent.

Dark and unnatural.

But I didn't let that get into my head, and I swam, keeping my eyes and ears open.

If I don't go to lands this time, maybe it could never be again.

After swimming for two mëris, I finally reached the neptunal gates.

These gates had been locked since I don't know.

Don't expect me to tell you every exact detail about maritime history. I'm just three Millenium years old.

I can never open these magic sealed gates, so I got no choice but to swim upwards to cross them.

It's the only way left.

Without thinking once, I started swimming upwards. The more I was going up, my legs and tail were straining to the point I'd never felt before—the type of pain when your body is restrained by thousand of electric eels.

It's unusual.

We merpeople never get tired of swimming. Yes, we can be out of energy if we swim continuously for days.

But this is unwonted.

Suddenly my head started throbbing at a painful pace. I stopped mid-water, holding the side of my head with both of my hands. The pain was unbearable. It was almost like my whole brain was going to get explode.

I cried in agony. The whole water echoed with my painful voice.

And that was then when I heard my father calling me from a distance.

I moved my eyes to see my father coming for me.

"Pearl, don't cross the gates."

Despite my throbbing head, I shook my head and resumed swimming, vigorously wiggling my tail.

My father called for me again.

"My princess, you can't cross those sealed barriers. Your body can't make it through it.

STOP PEARL!!!" A beam from my father covered my whole body.

And before I could listen to him anymore, I was out of Atlantis.

My body was light, and the unbearable pain was now no more. I closed my eyes in relief and joy that now I could start my natural journey.

But when I opened my eyes, they couldn't believe it.

I was in a black void. The ambiance was dangerously emitting a humming sound I'd never heard before.

There are no fish or sharks, just me and the pitch blackness, but that doesn't stop me from swimming toward my destination. I'll be on the ground soon.
