He wants everyone happy. No wars, just friendship.
So he prays to the Sky Gods, letting them play with him in return for his wish. And so he was thrown in another world where everyone was happy, his ideal world, but everyone had button eyes.
If the buttons get sown into his eyes, he's going to be the Sky God's puppet forever; but if he prevails and goes through the end portal before they get to sow the buttons into his eyes, he gets what he wants.
