It was a cool, early morning in Springvale, the first rays of light had barely risen over the hills on the horizon. The young Y/N stood just inside the front door of their small family home, heaving on a pair of tough, but worn old boots. "You're going early today" called a tired but warm voice plodding down the stairs.
"Yeah! The sooner I leave the better chances I'll have of actually catching something" Y/N responded, securing a bow and quiver over their shoulder.
"Hmm, be careful honey, it's still a bit dark out you don't want to get in the way of the wolves" Y/Ns mother calmly lectured.
"Wolves? I thought you'd be more worried about the Hilichurls" they responded.
"Oh, even Hilichurls like to sleep when it's still dark" Y/N's mother replied, pouring a hot, milky substance from a saucepan. She pushed a hot cup over the counter towards Y/N, "have something warm before you go, no debates!" she commanded. Y/N rolled their eyes a little, but really, they couldn't resist a warm cup of hot tea. The first few sips were slow and savouring, but in noticing the horizon become lighter and lighter they quickly chugged the rest down. Y/N slammed the empty cup onto the counter "Thanks, mum!" they called with smoky breath, quickly pushing past the front door and out into the crisp morning air.
"See you soon!" mother called from behind. Y/N took a deep breath in, quickly admiring the view. Mondstadt was still sleeping. They then took up a freshly lit lamp and raced off towards their usual hunting track.
Beneath the trees and amongst the bushes it was very dark, far darker than the sky actually was. All Y/N could make out was the silhouette of the forest. They kept their eyes and lantern close to the ground, scanning for boar tracks. It was only at this brief time of day that you'd hear crickets and birds chirping at the same time, it was very calm and soothing...

Awoooooooo!
Suddenly a sharp, intimidating howl boomed nearby. Y/N quickly caught their breath and their knees dropped a little. 'Wow...' they'd never heard a wolf sound that close before. Y/N stood still for a moment, processing the encounter... before releasing their breath and pushing on.
Y/N often wondered about wolves, they were obsessed with them as a kid, for an extended phase. They remembered attempting to run around on all fours a few times - ouch, their back ached just thinking about it. The human body definitely wasn't made to be running on all fours. Y/N had a reputation among their peers for a while, wolf (girl, boy, kid)! The kids used to call them, though as a young child, Y/N couldn't tell whether it was endearing or not.'Hm, that reminds me...' their thought trailed off, remembering the stories of the real wolf boy.
What was it like to live like a wolf? 'I wonder if he runs around on all fours' Y/N laughed silently to themself. Y/N didn't know whether they actually believed in those stories or not, though it was a fascinating thought. Living out in the open - Y/N rubbed their arms. Battling the elements - Y/Ns legs tingled. They wondered if a person could even stand living like that, then again, in years past, Y/N dreamt of living that very same way 'Oh, a trail!'
Cautiously Y/N peered over the thick scrub. The sun now hung, just over the horizon, turning the forest a warm shade of orange and yellow. A healthy wild boar herd ambled around in the small clearing. Y/N carefully scanned the large group making sure to filter out mothering, too young and sickly boar. Eventually, Y/N picked out a large, healthy male. 'Perfect.' The target, snuffed desperately at the ground, clearly unaware of the hunters' presence. Y/N slowly pulled out their bow, silently placing a spare arrow in their teeth.
Y/Ns breathing was silent, slow and deep... they steadily drew their arm back. Creeaak... An old sow quickly shot her head up with a frantic snort. The herd began to move. Fast. "Arrghh!" Y/N released the arrow with an annoyed grunt, fully expecting to lose what would've been a prime catch. As the frightened stomping of the herd faded away, Y/N dropped their head in frustration, "dang it!".
"Sqweeee! Sqweeee!" Y/N quickly perked up. The boar had been hit! Y/N let out a short, relieved gasp. "Yes!" they cried joyously. They excitedly pulled a small, sharp blade from their old satchel, then swiftly bounded over to finish the boar. Hurriedly sinking the knife into the squirming boars' armpit. It quickly fell limp and weakly closed its eyes.
Y/N heaved the boar onto their back, with considerable pride and considerable effort. A satisfied sigh escaped Y/Ns mouth. "We've got good food to eat for a while, and mother won't have to worry about buying much... thank you," they said dreamily lifting their eyes to the sky, unsure whether they were thanking the boar, the god of Anemo or...
Y/N happily trailed off with the boar hugging their back, keen to show off their catch to the more experienced hunters in Springvale.

The tall grass shuffled gently in the clearing. Light feet pressed into the dirt cautiously approaching the pool of blood left where the boar fell. A tough calloused hand tenderly lifted up the blade that had been left in the dirt. He snuffled at the tool curiously. Turning it over one or two times. "Lost," he said quietly, turning to follow the blood trickle towards Springvale.
