Chapter 7: The Demons Inside

Holly

I walk into River's closet, his scent swarming around me from all sides. A content little sigh escapes me as I drag my fingers along the left section of clothes that are hung up.
This night has gone better than I expected...In more ways than one.

I giggle quietly when memories of our kiss in the woods come pouring back to me. It was everything I hadn't expected but everything I wanted. His lips slanting over mine with a hunger I can still taste, his hands skirting over my skin...

I shiver at the idea of doing it again. I've been trying to keep my clouded thoughts at bay, the ones that tempt me to submit myself to him again—it's harder than I expected. Now that I know what it's like, I ache for it. For him.

I follow River's earlier directions and find some newly purchased clothes in my size folded on the left side of the closet.

Above the folded collection are some sweaters and dresses hanging up. They look and feel expensive as my fingers skim over various items, and I frown when thinking that River is spending money on me so soon after meeting. I'm sure he doesn't lack for funds, being Alpha, but I feel like such an added inconvenience.

I search through the piles and find some flannel pants and a soft shirt to go with it.

I listen hard and glance back over my shoulder to ensure River isn't about to walk in, feeling much less emboldened now after having had the effect from my wine wear off.

I quickly change as I curse myself for some of the things that slipped out of me earlier. I don't regret my words, per se, but I sure as hell didn't think I'd be quite that honest.

As I bring the shirt over my head, I hear a few raps on the door.

"Yeah?" I call out as I smooth the shirt down and gather my old clothes.

I turn to see River slowly push the door open. He looks around the room before seeing me in the closet. His dark eyes flicker down my body, examining my clothes.

"They fit okay?" he asks me, and I nod while awkwardly brushing my hair over to one side.

"Yeah, actually, really well. Thanks for doing that...I hope it didn't cost much." I say, half-way implying my discomfort of him buying things for me.

River walks in and stands before me, shrugging. "It isn't anything you need to worry about." He says shortly, and I roll my eyes and laugh a little bit, expecting this reaction. "What?" he asks me, somewhat defensively.

I look up to him and shake my head. "Nothing, it's just I sort of knew you'd react that way when I brought it up." I tell him, moving past him so I could put my clothes into the hamper near the door.

I can hear him shuffling around in the closet as I open the lid of the hamper, and toss the clothes in. Everything here seems so organized. My room back home would probably give him an aneurysm. I smile at the thought of River freaking out about it.

I turn and see that he managed to change into some sweatpants that hang off his hips in a beautiful way.

"Got me all figured out huh?" he asks me, and I watch as he purposefully takes his shirt off right in front of me. I bite down on my lip and take a few steadying breaths.

The jerk is trying to rile me up right now. He knows how little it takes for me to become distracted and flustered. He's using his own god-like body as a weapon against me and I'm enjoying it more than I should be.
