The first Code of the Clans states that cats can have a friendship with a cat from another Clan, but when it comes down to it, you HAVE to put your Clanmates first, and fight others in battle.That would mean it's impossible for a cross-Clan relationship without being seen as traitors to their Clan.
Cats can love who they want to love, right? Just because they are in different Clans, doesn't mean they can't be together.
So if we were to change this Code, it would be:
Cats are allowed to have mates outside of their own Clan, and are still able to be loyal to their Clan. In the case of kits, they are allowed to visit the other parent in the different Clan. If the parents decide they want to be in the same Clan, they should not be mistreated for making this decision.
Let's get onto the short story!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~A ginger and white Tom was shifting on his paws nervously, as he awaited for the leaders to be done talking. His leader, Aspenstar, was the leader of WindClan.
When she learned the news of his romance with a SlyClan Warrior, Beetlestorm, she had been hesitant to trust him. The Warrior Code did not allow these things, but he was one of Aspenstar's most trusted Warriors.
He was the Deputy.
Now, all four cats stood together. The Tom sat beside Beetlestorm as Aspenstar and Mintstar discussed what to do with them, privately.
Beetlestorm's bright yellow eyes were dark with worry. "What are we gonna do if they exile us, Sunnyfall?" She asked.
"I don't know, but we'll get through it" Sunnyfall replied calmly, though it was his trembling paws that gave away his jittery feeling.
"But our Clans are the only home we've know our whole lives!" Mewed Beetlestorm. "I don't want that to be taken away! I have my kin to think about"
"So do I," Sunnyfall answered, "but whatever happens, we'll face it together."
Beetlestorm nodded silently, but Sunnyfall could see the crestfallen look on her face. In an attempt to comfort her, he licked her ears gently.
An awkward cough snapped him to attention. He glanced up to the see the leaders standing there, waiting.
Aspenstar sat down, wrapping her tail around her paws. "We have come to a decision" she started.
Sunnyfall and Beetlestorm glanced at each other before nodding, a gesture for her to continue.
Mintstar twitched an ear, her amber eyes revealing nothing. "As you know, having a forbidden relationship with a cat from another Clan is considered breaking the Code. This has been a Code for thousands of seasons, but has been broken many times. However, Aspenstar and I have concluded that it's an unfair rule."
"What are you saying?" Beetlestorm questioned.
"We'd like to alter the Code a bit. We'll have to discuss this with Bloomstar, Flamestar and Copperstar first. But, as far as punishment goes, there is none. You should be allowed to love each other and be together" Aspenstar stated.
"Don't you have to get permission from StarClan?" Sunnyfall asked.
"It's time we stop relying on StarClan when it comes to changing the Code. They are our ancestors, not our society decision makers" Aspenstar responded.
But they do guide us. So shouldn't we at least talk to them about this? I shouldn't be questioning this since we're off the hook, but something about this doesn't seem right.
Aspenstar must have seen the look in his eyes, because she flicked his ear with her tail. "Sunnyfall, I assure you, this is the right choice. If StarClan has something to say, then they can come to us."
"Well....alright then"
Sunnyfall looked over at Beetlestorm. Her eyes were bright, and hope glimmered in them.
Yes, hope. Hopefully, the other leaders will agree. Hopefully, StarClan will approve of this.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Five moons later....
Sunnyfall was crouched down, watching as three kits tumbled near his paws.
A lot of time has passed. It took some convincing, but, eventually, the other leaders came to accept the new change.
Sunnyfall and Beetlestorm were free to be together. After about a moon, Beetlestorm came to WindClan to live with him and raise their newborn kits.
Mintstar had agreed to this, though disappointed to see one of her Warriors go. Aspenstar had accepted her into the Clan.
A while had passed by, and now Sunnyfall was watching his kits.
Nettlekit; a white she-cat with ginger spots and markings scattering her pelt.
Pigeonkit; gray and white Tom
And Shrewkit; dark brown Tom with white markingsAnd thanks to the new rule, they could live peacefully and happily without be looked down upon by other Warriors. Of course, not everyone accepted the rule. But most did, and that's what was more important.
"Kits, don't play so roughly" he warned gently.
"Sorry" Nettlekit and Shrewkit backed off of Pigeonkit, who stared at them crossly. "Why do I always have to be the rogue?" He complained.
"Because your the weakest" Nettlekit replied simply. "And rogues are weak. However, I, Nettlestar and my deputy, Shrewfang, are strong Warriors!"
Pigeonkit rolled his eyes. "Your so full of yourself. What makes you so sure that you'll be leader?"
"Well, dad is the Deputy, and future leader. So obviously, I should grow up to be like him. And I will! Shrewkit will be my deputy, and you can be the Medicine cat!" Nettlekit said in response.
"I don't want to be a Medicine cat!"
"But your too weak to be a Warrior!"
"Nettlekit, enough. When it comes to being a good Warrior, it isn't just about having good strength. It's about loyalty, honor and courage" Sunnyfall mewed.
Nettlekit flattened her ears and nodded, mumbling an apology to Pigeonkit.
The three kits went off to bother Branchwhisker.
Sunnyfall twitched his whiskers with amusement, looking over at Beetlestorm as she approached. "Such wise words. You'll make a good leader once day" She mewed softly.
"Yes, well hopefully that's still far off. Aspenstar is a good enough leader" Sunnyfall answered.
"She is" Beetlestorm agreed.
Sunnyfall did want to lead one day, but not too soon. For now, he'd like to sit back and watch his kits grow. He never imagined that things would work out, but they did. Now he has his family, and his Clan.
And that was all he needed.
