"Good luck asshole!"

Dream groaned and flicked Sapnap off for the stupid remark. He would definitely need the luck, though. Today he was picking up George for their first public appearance together and they hadn't talked since George had told him to 'Go to hell.'

Karl and Sapnap had picked out a lowkey cafe for them to have brunch at, so hopefully the paparazzi wouldn't be too bad. He was more worried, however, about how awkward it would be to sit with George pretending to be engaged in conversation when he clearly hated his guts.

Dream was extremely frustrated with everything right now. He kept replaying his time with George over and over in his head, trying to figure out where he went wrong- what did he do to the brunet that gave him a reason to be so hateful? He didn't know, but he was determined to find out today.

After driving through the early morning traffic he finally stopped outside George's apartment building (though Dream might call it more of a skyscraper seeing as it was one of the tallest buildings in the city). A few minutes later George walked out of the building, surprisingly put together.

"Good morning," Dream tried as George closed the door.

"Morning." George mumbled, staring out the window.

Tension slowly filled the car as the silence ensued once again. Dream noticed that George seemed less high strung today, but he still knew he needed to tread lightly to avoid another fight.

"You look nice today, George." Dream finally said after a few moments, trying to be nice before talking business with the dark haired man. He truly meant it too, George did look exceptionally cute today in the simple crew neck and jeans he wore. He was so sweet looking for someone that was so sour.

This made George turn his head to finally study Dream, and he found it hard to keep his eyes on the road.

"Why?" George finally said.

"Why what?"

"Why did you say that?"

"Because it's the truth," Dream said, taking his eyes off the road for a second to smile at him. He saw his eyes narrow before he turned back to the road.

And as Dream drove he didn't dare to say anything else.

And as they sat down and ordered, Dream could already feel the people staring.

And as Dream turned to look at George, he saw the worry and apprehension on his face.

"Hey, are you okay?" Dream asked as the server left, grabbing at George's hand on the table to try to get his attention.

He seemed to snap out of his trance, surprised by the touch. Dream noticed him start to pull away, but then he looked like he realized why he was there in the first place and let Dream's hand stay where it was.

"Yeah, sorry. I guess we should start talking or something, yeah?"

"Yeah, probably. So George, how was your week?"

"It was shitty."

Dream snorted at his bluntness. "How so?"

"Well, let's see.. First I basically got grounded from doing anything fun, I'm fighting with my manager, I had to sign a million contracts that probably sold my will away to some corporate company, and oh! I'm also dating a random person that I've had zero pleasant conversations with! My week has been amazing Dream! How about yours?"

Did he really just say that all out loud? Dream felt his face flush with anger as George talked. It was like the brunette had no filter and no regard for his reputation. He hoped that no one could overhear their conversation over the loud music playing.

"Well it was pretty okay, but the funniest thing is that I'm in the exact same situation as you, but I'm not whining about it like a two year old, honey."

"Maybe you should try it sometime darling, it's much more fun than pretending to be happy." George said, glaring daggers at the blond.

As the waiter walked up, George instantly put on a much more pleasant expression as he thanked them and took his food, pulling Dream's hand away as soon as he had an excuse.

They ate in silence, Dream searching his brain for any way he could redeem their first date. Why couldn't George just try?

So when Dream finished, he talked, not stopping for George to insert anything to ruin it.

"Well I don't know what you're doing next week, but I have a huge event to attend. They've been planning my outfits for months, George, you don't know how many adjustments have been made. I know it will be worth it though, because they did an amazing job. I'm honestly really excited. You could come, if you wanted to."

For once George didn't have a frown on his face as Dream spoke, but was seemingly interested in what Dream was saying.

"Sure. I'd imagine that Karl's already saved me a front row seat either way."

Dream was stunned that George agreed to something. His face lit up with a smile as he grabbed George's hands again out of excitement.

"Perfect! It'll be so cool, I promise." Dream said, not noticing how George stared down at their connected hands with amusement.

They paid and walked out, Dream keeping one of his hands interlocked with George's the entire time.

As soon as they were in the car, George pulled his hand away and sighed slumping down in the seat.

Dream frowned at his mood shift. "What's wrong?"

"I'm just tired. Can you please drop me off at my apartment?"

Dream frowned. "We're supposed to go back to my house though, Karl and Sapnap are both there right now."

"I really don't care."

"I don't want to make them mad though George, are you sure?"

"Yes. Now please, drive."

Dream was so confused. Why did George's mood change every ten seconds? There was no way that he was just 'tired', so what was the real reason he was so distant all of the sudden?

George got out and left without a word when Dream pulled up to the building. Dream drove home in a bad mood, worried about George and mad that he was so complicated.

"Hey Dream, how was it?" Sapnap asked as Dream walked into the living room where the two managers were currently seated.

"Weird." Dream said as he flopped down onto a chair. "We rode there in silence, started fighting as soon as we got there, ate in silence, then for one moment I thought it was getting better, because he let me hold his hand and he agreed to go to my show next week. But then we got in the car again and he was just done with me! He made me drop him off."

"It's okay Dream, that's honestly better than I expected it to go," Karl said with a laugh.

"Are you kidding? It was horrible!"

"Okay well honestly I'm impressed that he didn't start a screaming match with you based on your last encounter, and the fact that he let you hold his hand is also a good step."

"When will he start acting sane though? This is so frustrating."

"George doesn't open up very easily, and he also judges people pretty harshly. It took a few months for him to have pleasant conversations with me, and he didn't really open up to me until a while after that. He's a tough shell to crack, but he cares so much about the people he loves Dream. Just give him some time and be patient."

"Yeah Dream, you've only known each other for a week. Give it some time, and maybe invite him over some time on your own accord sometime this week." Sapnap suggested.

Dream sighed, but was thankful for the insight from the two. "Alright guys, thanks. I'm going to start talking to Callahan about making an amazing dinner for two."
