"George! Come down here please!"

It was my mom yelling for me from downstairs.

I slowly closed my book and got up from where I had been lying on my bed.

I put my book down and slowly walked downstairs.

"Good morning George. Do you think you could fetch some fresh water and eggs please?"

I gave a bright smile and nodded my head.

"Let me go get dressed first!"

I quickly rushed back upstairs to my wardrobe.

I didn't have too many options of clothing, but the ones I did have I considered very nice.

I grabbed a creme and blue striped sweater and a plain white button up to go on underneath it. I then quickly threw on a pair of jeans and socks before slipping on my sneakers. They were old sneakers, and a bit tattered, but I still loved them. I much prefered them to my gardening boots.

I walked down the stairs and headed to the front door.

"Dont forget to sta-"

"Stay away from the fence." I cut my mother off as my hand rested on the handle to the front door.

"You've told me a billion times. I won't go near the fence. I'm eighteen now mother. I know how to follow the rules."

I gave her a quick reassuring smile before opening the door and heading outside.

I took a deep inhale, always enjoying days like these. The air was fresh and crisp, and as it blew by it ruffled the leaves in the trees, making a lovely noise.

I quickly grabbed a bucket for the water off the porch and start my walk to the creek, deciding to collect eggs on the way back.

Eventually I make it to the pond where I kneel down and put the bucket in the water. It was fresh water, and harmless to drink. We did do minor procedures just in case to make sure it was safe to drink, but a few sips straight from the creek wern't enough to kill someone.

I was feeling a bit thirsty, so I put the filled bucket down on the ground next to me, scooping my hands and putting them in the cool water. I brought my hands up still clutching what I could and took a big gulp.

I finished it up quickly and got ready to head back to the house.

Except there was something new within my pereferal vision. It was something I had never seen before, and it made me curious.

I stood up and walked towards it.

It was so small, I was lucky I had caught it in the first place.

I continued walking, never seeming to be able to find its source.

Until I was at the fence.

There it was attatched to the fence, its vibrant color being what caught my attention in the first place.

A small peice of ribbon. It was a pink color that I beleived was called magenta. (No George Isn't color blind in this.)

But...

What was it doing on our fence?

I reached towards the fence and untied it and looked at it carefully. There was nothing special about it.

Just a small peice of ribbon.

Maybe mother will know why it is on our fence.

I walked a little ways before I reached my bucket. I picked it up and started my journey back to my house.

Once I got there I opened the front door and stepped inside, putting the bucket down.

"Mom?" I asked as I walked into the kitchen.

Her back was facing me and she was cooking eggs.

"Hello George. You were taking so long that I had to go and get eggs myself."

She didn't sound mad. It sounded more like lighthearted teasing.

"Mom..." I started, sundenly very nervous to ask her about the ribbon. "What is this?"

I sounded as hesitant as I felt.

She turned around and looked at what I was holding out for her to see. The megenta ribbon.

"W-where did y-you get this?" Her lip quivered slightly and I could easily tell she was upset or worried about something.

I fell silent.

Why did she seem so uneasy? It was just a ribbon.

I took a deep breath prepared to get reprimanded for being at the fence.

"It was on our fence..." My words died down to a near whisper.

A look of horror crossed her face.

And just like that it was gone. Instead being replaced with a look of determination.

"Pack your things. We're leaving."

What? Leaving?

Before I could even ask what was going on, she was zipping about the house, this way and that, packing up belongings.

"Mom!" I gently grab onto her shoulders, stopping her, what looks to be mild panic.

"What's going on?"

I lock eyes with her, and though she was doing her best to look determined, I could see the glint of fear in her eyes.

"They've found us," her voice is barely audible, but I still manage to hear.

"We've been marked George."

She looked so serious.

"What do you mean marked, and whom do you speak of when you say 'they'?"

Her face went through multiple different emotions right then and there, too many to count and keep track of.

"The hunters. If that is on our fence, then hunters will be here soon, searching the place. We must leave before they get here. Now please go pack your things."

I let my grip loosen at her words as she walks away.

We've been found?
