Tori's Perspective
I sat in front of my mom, nervously pulling at the hem of my undershirt as she tied my tie for me. I'd seen both my parents tie a tie before, yes, and it looked like a pretty slash really simple knot, but she insisted on me looking perfect for my first day.
Dad offered to help, but she refused. I see why, since he can barely tie his own ties. She had to teach him how to tie them. I loved hearing her yelling at him when he tied a knot wrong, it was the main source of inside jokes in the house.
Is it obvious I'm lying yet? Because that wasn't funny at all. They've woken me and my brother up multiple times. And every single time it happens, it'll be earlier than eleven-AM. And whenever we wake up it's almost impossible for us to go back to sleep.
While that may not sound all that terrible, it can get pretty annoying waking up at nine in the morning on a Wednesday, mid-July. Then to have the same thing happen the very next day.
It's even more annoying when you stayed up late the previous night, celebrating your acceptance into RSA with your best friends. All of which are devastated that you won't be finishing high school with them, but either way, are happy for you.
I guess while all of this was coursing through my head, I zoned out. Because after what felt like a second, Mom was finished with my tie.
"And there we go. You're all set now, sweetheart." She said, breaking the silence, "This uniform looks great on you."
Tucking a loose strand of my hair behind my ear, I giggled.
"Thanks, Mom." I responded with a grin, "I feel like I've been waiting forever to put this on again!"
"I can tell - You've switched what you plan to wear it with only a hundred times."
"In my defense, the letter said we were allowed to wear whatever we want with our uniforms! Well, as long as it fits the dress code. Besides, Andy, Nate, and Dani helped me pick everything out."
Mom laughed again, "I know that too. I was the one who drove you four to the mall each time. What is it you bought again?"
I rubbed the back of my neck, "Heh, it was the same each time. A mess of red, gray, black, and ivory to match my uniform."
"Yep, but seeing you in your uniform just makes me realize that everything was so worth it. Even your brother's breakdown when he found out about the dorm room situation."
As if mentioning him was his cue, Nico stepped into the room. But in all honesty, I didn't notice him until we spoke up at the same time.
"Don't remind me."
"Please don't remind me."
I turned to my right and locked eyes with my brother, who was standing in the doorway of our parents' room, still dressed in his baggy shorts and even baggier t-shirt. After just looking at it I could tell it was one of the many he had borrowed from Dad.
