Nagito was sitting alone at a party. Normally he would refuse the offer and stay at his house but this party was for someone special he had to be here. Not only that he was-

"Alright, alright! That's what I'm talkin' about!"

A drunk Kazuichi stumbled on the stage. He was given the job as an announcer he was pretty sure he was only given that job so that he could do something else besides bother Sonia.

"Now, everyone give it up for Hajime's best man Nagito Komaeda!

Everyone clapped as Nagito stood up from his seat. He raised his glass and everyone followed suit.

"A toast to the groom"

"To the groom" Everyone echoed

"To the bride"

"To the bride!" They cheered back.

From low-

"Ahem" Hajime interrupted giving him a look.

"Um right. From your friend?"

Hajime gave him a smile of approval.

A small chuckle spread throughout the room.

"From your friend who is always by your side. To class 77-B and to the hope that that you all provide!"

He had to pause for a moment to swallow the lump in his throat.

"May you always be satisfied"

Everyone cheered as Kazuichi came back to announce other things but Nagito wasn't listening. Everything was becoming a blur. He had to leave the room.

He got up and rushed to the bathroom everyone was paying too much attention to Kazuichi to pay him any mind. He ran in and slammed the stall door. Collapsing onto the toilet. How did it get to this point? He remembered him and Hajime were so close he was sure Hajime had feelings for him too. Even if he didn't he surely could tell Nagito did. Why put him through this torture? It didn't matter anyway he deserved it. Hajime deserved better than him He looked perfectly happy with Chiaki. His mind began to wander until it eventually stumbled upon the memory of when they first met. The night that he made his first mistake.

It was prom night. It was going to be their last year at Hope's Peak so everyone was there. Nagito wasn't really paying attention to anything as he just sat in the corner of the room. Chiaki was sitting with him playing on the switch she brought. He was smiling pleasantly as he soaked in the hope his classmates were radiating. Besides the noise, the night was filled with hope just like it was supposed to. But then he walked in. Nagito froze as he stared at him he was perfect. He had spiky brown hair and beautiful hazel? Green? It was hard to tell but was a beautiful color nonetheless. His suit perfectly complimented him. He noticed a movement in the corner of his eyes he turned to see Chiaki who also had an awestruck look. A GAME OVER flashed across her screen but she didn't seem to care. His heart sunk when he realized what it meant. Her gazed snapped when she noticed Nagito looking at her. She started blushing as she quickly went back to her game. Nagito smiled at her as he got up and walked over to Hajime. When he glanced back he noticed Chiaki was giving him a confused and worried look.

He was even better looking up close. When Hajime noted his presence he smiled at him and stuck his hand out.

"Hajime Hinata what's yours?"

Nagito froze up for a second something about that smile made him stop thinking. He couldn't remember anything. Not where he was not what he was doing not even his name. All he could do was stare. Hajime's smile weakened a bit as he was about to put his hand back. Nagito snapped from his trance and quickly grabbed his hand and shook it.

"Sorry about that hehe Name is Nagito Komaeda I don't think I have seen you before what class are you in?"

"Class 77-C" Hajime replied

So that is why Class 77-C was in a different building. His building only consisted of class 76-79-b there was no reason to cross paths. But that didn't matter now.

"You know you strike me as kind of an outsider"

"What?"

"I'm sorry that just kind of came out its nothing bad I'm kind of an outsider too." He chuckled nervously.

"Is that right?" Nagito giggled "You seem to be fitting along just fine."

"Oh, yea you have no idea."

They laughed and had small talk for a bit. It was perfect Nagito hadn't had so much talking to someone in a while even when he felt he messed up and let too much of his strangeness slip out Hajime took it without batting an eye. After a while, Nagito remembered why he was here. He was testing Hajime and he passed everyone single one (making him fall for him even harder) it was time to introduce him to Chiaki.

He grabbed Hajime's hand and ignored the flutter in his heart when Hajime didn't pull away.

"I have someone I want you to meet."

As they were walking to the table he debated on whether he should do this. It was obvious he and Hajime were compatible. He was perfect in every way! In the end, his perfectness was were cemented his decision he didn't deserve Hajime but he knew someone who did.

He brought him to the table he and Chiaki were sitting at and gestured him to take a seat. When they all settled down and had them introduce each other.

"Hey. My name is Chiaki Nanami class 77-b" Normally this would look like something any other person would but the fact that Chiaki paused her game and was giving Hajime her full attention really showed her interest.

Hajime looked at Nagito and made the connection

"Class 77-b?"

"She is my classmate." Nagito beamed at him ignoring the dark feelings twisting inside of him.

They talked for the whole night and now he couldn't help but feel the irony of the situation. He was an outsider on this discussion while Hajime clicked with Chiaki. When the prom was over they all got up and exchanged numbers promising to keep in touch as they exited the dance.

A couple of years later and here he was. Just Nagito in the bathroom (Yes this is a reference let's see who gets it first >:3) while Chiaki Nanami became Chiaki Hinata. Fitting. It even rolled off the tongue easily. Goes to show how perfect they are for each other. Tears streaked down his face. A knock startled him.

"Hey, Nagito are you in there? The others said they saw you come in a while ago." Hajime called

"Yes, I'm here," Nagito answered

"Are you okay? You don't sound good."

"Fine guess the food didn't sit right." Nagito laughed softly

"Oh guess I'll wait for you to come out then."

"No!" Nagito cried. He couldn't let Hajime see him right now he was a mess. He could tell he startled Hajime with his response.

'" I mean you don't have to worry about scum like me it's your night go enjoy it."

"Nagito we talked about this."

"Sorry slip of the tongue."

"Right well I guess I'll be going now I think I hear Kazuichi trying to pick a fight with Gundham."

"Go ahead Hajime I'll meet up with you."

The sound of footsteps followed by the sound of an opening and closing door. He got up and walked out of the stall going to the sink to clean himself up. This was fine everything was going the way he hoped that night he introduced them. He just wished he could get rid of the despair-inducing feelings he had coiled inside him. It didn't matter what he wanted anyway despite all of Hajime's refutes he was only a stepping stone. He donned his best smile walking out the door ready to be Hajime's best man.
