I live in the Angleän Sea in an underwater castle with my brother Carlos and my younger sister Jewelima. Our favorite place is the Magi Wood which is a magnificent underwater forest with all sorts of different kinds of sea fruit.
I have long black hair and eyes like the sea, my tail is purple and slowly fades to pink at my fin. Jewelima is always getting into trouble, whereas I am responsible and always get blamed for Jewelima's disrespectful behavior. Carlos likes to keep his thoughts to himself. He hardly talks to anyone unless he has to.
Our father died when I was eight. Carlos and Jewelima weren't even born yet, but they still wonder what their father was like. Sometimes they ask me about him, which makes me feel guilty because I don't remember him either.
I was in the Magi Woods watching Carlos and Jewelima, they were trying to see who could do a better backflip.
"That was pathetic, Carlos," There was derision in her voice as Jewelima flipped her light green tail over her head and landed perfectly. Jewelima doesn't have very many friends because all she ever talks about is herself.
The warning horn broke the silence.
"We better go back inside," I insisted. This earned me a glare from Jewelima.
The castle was sparkling gold with three towers connected to the main castle. Mermaids called the towers Cadence, Galanthea, and Erisa after the queens that came before Queen Serala, my mother. We found mother in her quarters studying the ocean outside her window. Mother turned towards us when she heard the door open.
"I have bad news," She sighed.
"What happened?" I asked, impatiently.
"The Mermaidian's royal pearl was stolen!"
Mother explained with worry in her eyes.
