It was time to go. This was one of the saddest days ever. I had woken up and started making my suitcase. I had gone shopping in LA so I had so push a lot more to get it to close. I started to go out the door and turned to see my room in Venus’s house one last time. I sighed, knowing that I would never be coming back. I clicked the door behind me and set off down the hallway. Amy joined me after a while and told me how much she would miss me. I got her phone number and promised to text or call. When we got to the main room at the front, I had tears in my eyes and saw some in hers as well. We hugged fiercely for a long time before letting each other go. Venus and her crew came out to say good bye. To my great surprise, Venus came up to me and gave me a bone crushing hug. I hugged her back as she thanked me again for changing her. When we separated, she held my shoulders.

“Free VIP tickets for you, your family, and your friends whenever you want them. Is there anything else I can do to thank you?”

I shook my head and was about to say I had to leave, but I stopped. “There is something, actually. It’s for a friend.”

Venus nodded vigorously and I whispered something into her ear. She pulled back, shocked.

“What? Really? How did I not know that?”

She turned abruptly to Amy and said,  “I never knew that your mother needed treatment! Why didn’t you ask me for help?” Before Amy could try to answer, Venus did it for her. “Oh, right. I’ve been a jerk. How about this. To make up for all those times I yelled at you, I will pay all the funds needed to get your mother better! How does that sound?”

Amy’s eyes lit up and she ran toward Venus with a squeal. Amy jumped up and hugged Venus tighter than I’ve ever seen.  “Thank you so much!”

Venus hugged her back.  “You’re welcome.”

I smiled at the two of them, thinking that if this had all happened a few days ago, Venus wouldn’t have cared on bit. Amy turned toward me with a sympathetic look on her face.

“I don’t want you to go.”

“I know.” I said softly. I walked toward her and gave her long hug, in which we both fought back tears. When I pulled back, I looked into her eyes and said,  “I want constant updates on you and your mom.  Don’t lose hope, my friend, everything will work out in God’s own timing.”

She smiled.  “I will, and I won’t.”

There was a brief moment of silence, then we both started cracking up. Venus stared at us like we were lunatics, not knowing why we were laughing. I tried to explain through forced breaths.

“She- she said…she would…and she…she…” I couldn’t keep it in. I don’t know why is was so funny, but it was. Venus sighed and shook her head. Amy and I collected ourselves and I grabbed my suitcase.

“I will miss all of you.”

All around me, I saw sad faces. I tried to lighten the mood.

“Hey, think about it this way! You all get to have fun with Venus now!”

They laughed but I could tell they were still sad to see me go. I waved one last goodbye and slipped out into the sunlight. I climbed into the limo that waiting for me and watched as Venus’s huge house got smaller and smaller.

I ran straight into my mothers loving arms. I had gotten home about three minutes ago and my mother was trading in the driveway, grinning like mad. I was finally home. I knew my dad wasn’t here yet because his car wasn't in front of the house. I held tightly to my mom for a long time and when we parted, she had tears in her eyes.

“I missed you so much, Quinn! How did it go? Tell me everything!”

“I will! But first, I’ve got to get my stuff.”

I ran back to the limo where Pedro was already taking my bags out. He handed them to me with a smile and I have him a hug.

“What? What was that for, young lady?” Pedro asked, trying to sound stern. He failed.

“It’s a thank you for driving me everywhere and being the first kind person I met in LA.”

Pedro blushed, not knowing what to say.

“You- you’re welcome, I guess.”

I laughed a little and hugged him again. Turning around, I walked back to my mother and we entered the house. The smell of home hit me like a bomb and I realized how much I had missed it. She and I sat on the couch and I shared all of the stories I could think about. I didn’t tell her about Venus changing because I wanted to do that with my dad here. When he finally came home, I jumped into his arms shouting,  “Daddy!” like a little girl. we sat down to a delicious  meal and I told more about the trip. When I told them about what I did, they both grinned like cheshire cats and congratulated me. I had never brought someone to Christ before. I went to bed thinking about how great my God is and that He made sure the hard things I went though had a purpose in my life and someone else’s. God is good.
