"What do you mean he's also trying out?" Megara turned her head to search for the boy in question, which was hard, due to all the people sitting in the cafeteria.
Rita slurped on a metal Starbucks cup in her hand, silently hoping Savannah would answer the question. But Sav was just as clueless, twirling a piece of blonde hair between her fingers. "I dunno. I just heard some people talking about it, and then his friend little red said he was gonna be cheering Rick on during the auditions.
Megara, still scanning the cafeteria, nodded. "His friend is named Big Red."
"Whatever," Rita said. "Same difference."
Finally, Megara turned to face her friends, the three of them sitting at a circle-shaped table by themselves. "Who would he even try out for?"
Sav dropped her hair, placing her palms on the table in a serious matter. "You don't think he's going to try out for JD, do you?"
Rita scrunched her nose. "He's weird, but not sicko weird. He'll probably be an extra."
Megara nodded. "Yeah."
"You're still trying out though, right?" Rita nudged her, perfectly manicured nails grabbing hold of the metal straw in her cup. Rita was such a freak when it came to staying hydrated, it almost drove Meg crazy. Almost.
She sighed. "Yeah, sure. Why not."
Sav grinned. "Yes! It'll be so much fun!"
Meg smiled at her friends' joy, ultimately convincing herself of being relaxed and having fun until she finally caught sight of him walking into the cafeteria with Big Red.
It almost seemed Ricky had been looking for her too since he locked eyes with her almost immediately after walking into the room. Meg didn't let the moment last too long, knowing Sav and Rita would tease her about it no doubt, so she didn't let her smile falter any bit and instead turned her head away. She lived before without him, so she would just have to adjust to life without him again.
Right?
