Megara definitely had not meant to be so rude to Ricky before when they talked briefly in the hallway.  After all, she was on a mission: get her pink shorts and get out of there!  But she couldn't stop thinking about how her budding friendship (though she hated it at times) had come to a halt thanks to their parents.  Now, she wasn't sure how to act.

All she knew was that Ricky would be at her house any minute.  She groaned as the Bobbi pin she slid into her head scraped her scalp a little too harshly.  Megara dropped her hands to her sides, studying herself in the mirror.  Why was she so spun up?  Relax, she told herself.  She tilted her head, smiling at the lime green kool-aid shirt she wore, tugging it over her jean shorts as she heard the doorbell ring.  She stopped, watching her own eyes widen in slight shock before shaking the worries away, and going to grab the door.

"Rick," Megara greeted her old friend.  He rolled his eyes, storming into her house with a huff.  "Oh, nice to see you too."

     "Where're your henchmen?" he asked.

"Hah, very funny," Megara smiled, which faded once she realized how tense Ricky was.  "God, what's got you all spun up?"

"Sorry, it's just ⎯ you try taking care of a single mom post-breakup," he sighed.

"Hmm, maybe you should try taking care of a single dad post-breakup.  I'll switch you.  Mine can balance the cereal bowl on his chest when he eats in bed," Megara rolled her eyes, thinking of having to check up on her dad multiple times, just to make sure Captain Crunch wasn't going to take his life unexpectedly.

"Ah, but mine cries in the shower."

"But mine didn't shower for a day after."

     "Mine didn't shower for two."

The two stared at each other for a brief second before bursting out into a fit of laughter, understanding really how pathetic their parents were being.  "So, your dad hasn't tried throwing all her stuff in a pile and burning it out back?" Ricky asked.

"Nah.  And I don't think he would notice if it were gone or not.  Even if he did, I don't think he'd care all that much.  No offense, I think he's just happy it's all over," Megara scratched the back of her neck.

Ricky nodded silently, sliding his hands further into his pocket.  After a couple of moments of silence, a thought popped into his head.  "Does your dad still have those security cameras?"

Megara nodded.  "Yeah, but lucky for you, he took them down today to change the battery so they're not up," she smiled.

     "And you're happy about that?"

"Well, yeah.  I don't really wanna be caught conversing with the enemy," she laughed it off.  "And then I would also have to delete the footage before he saw it, and he sees it on his phone."

"Wow, someone's a bit overprotective," Ricky raised an eyebrow.

"Well duh! I live here!" she stated like it was obvious.  Matthew Montez might be a little cold sometimes, but everyone knew he loved his daughter more than anything.

"You only think of yourself," Ricky said in a low voice, but no matter how much he meant to mutter, his words found their way to Megara's heart.

"Oh, and you don't?  You know, just forget it," she put her hand up, signaling for Ricky to close his mouth.  "I've got homework.  You can let yourself out when you're done," she turned and trotted up the stairs and into her room, leaving Ricky at the bottom of the staircase, once again watching someone leave.
